The Fiji Volleyball Federation (FVF) today participated in an impactful Safeguarding & GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) Training, bringing together key representatives from the Referees & Coaches Commission and our local Associations: Nausori, Nasinu, Nadonumai, Mid Central, Suva, Nakasi, Qauia, Ovalau, Raiwaqa and Kinoya Volleyball Associations.

Joined by experts Vivian Koster and Jacqui Berrell (GESI Senior Project Manager, Inform - Fiji & Australia), this initiative aligns directly with the Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls (NAP-VAWG), utilizing sport as a powerful driver for social change, resilience, and prevention.

What is Safeguarding & How Does It Strengthen Fiji Volleyball?
Safeguarding is the proactive commitment to ensuring our courts, clubs, and tournaments are safe, fair, and welcoming for everyone—especially children, youth, women, and vulnerable individuals.

How this work transforms our game from the grassroots up:
1. Creating Safe & Inclusive Courts: Establishes clear codes of conduct and reporting channels so players, coaches, and referees can thrive free from harm, abuse, or discrimination.

2. Sport as a Prevention Mechanism: Aligns with Fiji’s NAP-VAWG by using volleyball to promote respectful relationships, non-violence, and gender equality across all communities.

3. Empowering Local Associations: Equips local leaders from Nausori to Suva with the knowledge to identify risks early, enforce GESI principles, and govern responsibly.

4. Building Trust with Families & Partners: Reassures parents, sponsors, and stakeholders that FVF events prioritize safety, ethical conduct, and holistic youth development.

Together, we are setting standard governance practices across Fiji—ensuring volleyball remains a safe, inclusive, and empowering space for all! 🇫🇯🏐

📣 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE BIO SERIES |2026

This quarter, NVA will be running a bio‑profiling series to introduce the faces behind our leadership — the people driving volleyball development across our Vuvale

Today, we proudly feature our newly appointed Head Coach, Mr. Emori Bakewa, affectionately known as Coach Barx.

🏆Coach Barx takes over the reins from Coach Peni Ratumaiyale. Coach Ben will continue his service as Chair of the NVA Coaching Commission, leading the development of coaching accreditation pathways for local coaches within the Tebara region.

Coach Barx brings a wealth of experience and proven excellence in volleyball coaching and s&c at national, regional and international levels. His first order of business will be spearheading a volleyball acceleration programme or VIA Change Pathway among our grassroot volleyball players.

His coaching philosophy blends discipline, community spirit, and performance excellence, reflecting NVA’s commitment to “Building Champions, Building Community.”
