BAO QUAN LI — THE WUSHU SALUTE
In Wushu, Bao Quan Li (抱拳礼) is more than a simple greeting. It represents respect, discipline, humility, and martial ethics.
The gesture is traditionally performed by making a fist with the right hand and covering it with the open left palm.
👊 Right fist — represents martial skill, strength, and the ability to fight.
✋ Left open palm — represents restraint, respect, wisdom, and the choice not to misuse that strength.
Together, they express an important principle of martial arts:
“I possess strength, but I use it with respect and self-control.”
Bao Quan Li reminds every Wushu practitioner that true martial skill is not only about power—it is about character.
☯️ Respect your opponent.
Respect your teacher.
Respect the art.
Respect yourself.

What is Wushu?
Wushu (武术) literally means "martial arts" in Chinese. It is the collective name for China's traditional fighting arts, developed over thousands of years for self-defense, military training, health, and personal growth. Today, Wushu is practiced both as a competitive sport and as a traditional martial art.
Main Categories of Wushu:
🔹 Taolu (Forms)
A performance discipline featuring choreographed movements that demonstrate power, speed, balance, flexibility, and precision.
• Changquan (Long Fist)
• Nanquan (Southern Fist)
• Taijiquan (Tai Chi)
• Traditional Wushu styles
🔹 Sanda (Sanshou)
A full-contact combat sport combining punches, kicks, throws, sweeps, and takedowns. It is the practical fighting side of modern Wushu.
Major Style Classifications:
✅ Northern Styles (Long-range movement, high kicks, agile footwork)
Examples: Changquan, Chaquan, Huaquan, Piguaquan
✅ Southern Styles (Powerful stances, strong hand techniques, close-range combat)
Examples: Hung Gar, Choy Li Fut, Wing Chun, Mok Gar
✅ Internal Styles (Focus on relaxation, breathing, balance, and internal power)
Examples: Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Baguazhang
✅ Traditional Wushu (Hundreds of family and regional systems preserving China's martial heritage)
Wushu is more than fighting—it builds discipline, confidence, fitness, respect, and lifelong learning. Whether your goal is competition, self-defense, health, or cultural appreciation, there is a place for everyone in Wushu.
🥋 Train the body. Sharpen the mind. Respect the tradition.
