Eritrean National Table Tennis Federation Launches Olympic Values Training for Young Table Tennis Players
The Eritrean National Table Tennis Federation (ENNTF), in collaboration with the Eritrean National Olympic Committee (ENOC), has launched an Olympic Values Training Program for young and emerging table tennis players. The training, combining theoretical and practical sessions, began on Friday, 21 August, at the Olympic Hall.
At the opening of the program, the President of the Eritrean National Table Tennis Federation, Eng. Ahmedin Mohammedhagos, encouraged the participants to make full use of the opportunity they have been given and to put the knowledge and values gained from the training into practice.
The training program will continue until 30 August, covering a total of 10 days. A total of 36 young and emerging players, consisting of 18 boys and 18 girls, are participating. The participants are between the ages of 10 and 15 and have been selected from all six regions of Eritrea.
The training is being conducted in two sessions each day. During the morning session, theoretical lessons on Olympic Values are being delivered at the Eritrean National Olympic Committee Hall by Dr. Amine Teklay and Mr.Gebretinsae Damr, members of the Eritrean National Olympic Committee.
In the afternoon, the participants attend practical basic table tennis training at Dembe Sembel School, under the guidance of coach Simon Yemane, together with three assistant coaches.
The main objective of the program is to introduce young and emerging athletes, from an early age, to the values of the Olympic movement and sports, and to help develop athletes who are built on discipline, competence, respect, and positive sporting values.
The Eritrean National Table Tennis Federation also stated that a similar training program was successfully conducted last year. The current program marks the second time that the Federation has organized this Olympic Values Training initiative during this year.
