Britain has never been short of basketball talent. It’s been short of a pathway: courts that don’t cost a fortune, a league worth aspiring to, a reason for the next kid to believe.

NBA Europe, on schedule for 2027 with London and Manchester both targeted for franchises, could be exactly that. Billion-dollar bids are already on the table, the NBA is committing more than $3bn, and £10m is going into UK grassroots.

A London kid just won the NBA title. The only question now is how many follow him.
