Recently, we were helping a customer source climbing hangers and expansion bolts with CE and UIAA certification.

At first, it seemed simple—after all, bolts are standard hardware, right?

Not exactly.

Most factories manufacture anchors and expansion bolts for construction use. While they may have certifications for building applications, very few can provide products certified to climbing and fall-protection standards such as EN 959:2018 or EN 795.

Many brands consider obtaining their own certification, but the reality is that the process can be expensive and time-consuming. Testing, audits, and certification can take several months and cost thousands of dollars before a single product reaches the market.

Instead of reinventing the wheel, I focused on finding manufacturers that already have proven CE and/or UIAA-certified products and established quality systems.
