𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟒 (𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 2): A Relaxing Morning Onboard & Discovering the Culture of Fengdu 🌊✨

In the afternoon, Century Voyage arrived at our final port of call for this upstream journey—Fengdu.

Known as the “Ghost City,” Fengdu is one of the most unique cultural destinations along the Yangtze River. Behind its mysterious name lies a fascinating world of Chinese folk beliefs, legends, and traditions. The ancient site is famous for its temples, mythical stories, and unique interpretation of the afterlife in traditional Chinese culture.

Before visiting, I honestly wondered: “Is this place really spooky?” But our guide completely changed my impression. Through vivid storytelling, we discovered that Fengdu is not about fear—it is about traditional values and the belief in justice, where good deeds are rewarded and wrongdoings are punished.

Interestingly, Fengdu is also regarded as one of China’s “72 Blessed Lands” in traditional culture, showing another side of this legendary place. What first sounded mysterious turned into a fascinating journey through history, mythology, and local beliefs.

During dinner, another memorable moment awaited us. The captain visited the restaurant to give a farewell speech and personally presented birthday cakes to guests celebrating their special day onboard—a warm and thoughtful gesture that made the evening feel even more meaningful.

A few tips for future travelers:
✨ Fengdu Ghost City is a cultural attraction rather than a “scary” place. Visiting with a guide greatly enhances the experience by bringing the legends and history to life.
✨ The Fengdu visit includes the uphill sightseeing bus, but the downhill ride is not included. The optional downhill sightseeing bus costs RMB 20 per person (one way). Since the downhill route is a sloped path with a noticeable incline, travelers with limited mobility may consider taking the sightseeing bus for a more comfortable experience.
