Episode One follows renowned automotive photographer Tom Kahler and the role the bike plays in his creative process. From scouting remote locations to finding the perfect road, angle or backdrop for shoots with brands like Bentley and Aston Martin, the bike has become a through line in his work.

To celebrate 30 years since Lightweight’s first appearance on La Grande Boucle, just 30 Meilenstein ART | Allez Edition wheelsets were created.
Each set was individually hand-painted by the incredibly talented Tom Hnida . Chroma Studio, drawing inspiration from the colours, emotion and iconic roadside chalk messages that define cycling’s greatest race. Every brushstroke tells part of the story.
We knew there was only one bike worthy of pairing with them.
Finished in Campari Red, the SWI Aequus perfectly complements Tom’s vibrant artwork, creating a build that feels as though the frame and wheels were designed together from the very beginning. Bold, elegant and unmistakably inspired by the sport we all love.

Portofino
Inspired by the Italian Riviera, Portofino pairs a refined metallic lavender with exposed 3K carbon to create a finish that is both understated and unmistakably premium.
Painted entirely by hand, the metallic finish comes alive in changing light while the exposed carbon celebrates the craftsmanship beneath. Clean transitions between paint and raw carbon highlight the sculptural lines of the Aequus, creating a finish that feels timeless rather than trendy.

The first step in creating a Ghost finish is actually making it disappear.
Before any colour is applied, the frame receives its base layers, creating the foundation that will ultimately allow the Ghost effect to emerge. At this stage, there’s little indication of what the finished frame will become.
The magic comes later.
A Ghost isn’t a colour. It’s a process.
This is where the Ghost begins to reveal itself.
Layer upon layer of carefully controlled paint is applied by hand. Too much and the effect disappears. Too little and the colour never develops.
The goal is to create a finish that transforms with light—appearing almost transparent from one angle and rich with colour from another.
No two Ghosts are ever exactly alike.
A Ghost finish is designed to reward a second look.
In the shade, it can appear subtle and understated. Step into the sunlight and the frame comes alive, revealing depth, movement, and colour hidden beneath the surface.
It’s one of the most challenging paint processes we offer and one of the most captivating.

Inside the Factory
In the back of the workshop, Giuseppe is laminating a new 56cm Aequus frame.
Lamination is where a frame truly begins to take shape. Sheet by sheet, individual pieces of carbon fiber are cut, positioned, aligned, and carefully laid into the mould by hand.
A single SWI frame represents dozens of hours of lamination work alone. Every piece must sit exactly where it was engineered to be. Every overlap, every transition, every layer contributes to how the bike will ultimately ride.
When you spend a few moments watching these craftsmen work it becomes clear that this is something else entirely. Carbon fiber is a remarkable material, but in the wrong hands it’s just fabric and resin. In the right hands, it becomes a machine capable of carrying someone over mountains, across continents, and through years of unforgettable rides.
We love it when customer and fans of SWI come visit the factory and see the process first hand. Everyone walks away with a new relationship to the bike.

That’s the minimum time required to handcraft a single SWI Aequus frame.
Clear coat finishes may appear simple, but they’re often the most demanding. There is nowhere to hide. Every carbon layer, every transition, and every detail of the herringbone layup must be executed with absolute precision. The weave has to be perfect because the frame itself becomes the artwork.
For many purists, a gloss clear coat Aequus is the ultimate expression of the bike. No paint. No distractions. Just the craftsmanship, engineering, and material on full display.
