Attention Southsyde riders. There has been new barbwire fencing installed at the end of Cataline drive, leading towards the bowl, with numerous gates to go through. Please use caution, keep the gates closed and be aware of the fencing as you move through that area. There may be changes in the near future but for now, ride carefully.

UNBC student researcher taryn atkinson is working on a project how wildfire effects on North-Central BC mountain bikers and how wildfires affect participation and well-being. I am hoping to speak to mountain bikers of all biking abilities from North-Central BC. She is looking for participants for her study and can be contacted by the email in her poster.

The WLCC is hoping to entice more people to become members.

A lot of people ask me, or many of our hard working club directors, what their membership goes towards or what it gets them. I’ve been doing this a long time so it seems really obvious to me but….sometimes I need a new lens or perspective when answering that question. So here’s what I would say:

“Your membership goes towards the very existence of the Williams Lake Cycling Club. Without you, there would be no club and without us you wouldn’t have, in no intentional order:
-one of the largest legal trail networks in the province. This includes close to 180 trails and over 300km of single track, almost all accessible from anywhere in town.
-new major trails like Lazy Dog or Loose Moose, which was a $245,000 investment into our community
-close to $100,00 invested into rebuilding the Westsyde trail network over the last 3 years, The Backdoor, Cherry Popper and Bushinvader all saw significant improvements and rebuilds. This is all after a $95,000 investment in 2012 that made Snakes and Ladders the rad trail it is now
-organized timed dh races(a special thanks to all the hard working volunteers that make the Sunset Race Series happen)
-a regular annual maintenance budget that allows us to keep most of our trails In amazing shape and that also allows us to respond to trail issues as needed
-protection of our trails when other user groups, industry or fuel management activities have plans in the areas our trails are located
-a respectful relationship with First Nations and WLFN which recognizes we are recreating in the unceded territories of the Secwépemc people
-a legal binding agreement with the province to maintain the trails and one that recognizes our trails as legally protected.
-a cohesive strategy with the city of Williams Lake where they support us and we promote WL as a strong and vibrant mtb community

Oh, you also have a chance to win one of 6 club prize packs that include a pair of sweet WLCC socks and/or a WLCC T-shirt or jersey for the youth and a pair of socks and a jersey for the adults.”

As to the, “How do I win?” question, just become a member of the WLCC before June 21, 2026. Everyone that’s a 2026 WLCC member by that date will qualify. We have two prize packs each for youth, ladies and men.

For parents, your child or children will be entered when you do a family membership.

Take advantage of this opportunity to learn about local invasive species and how to manage and stop their spread. Or just go for an educational walk in the woods. Thanks for hosting Kate!

Just a reminder that the city sponsored Mud Puddle running race is occurring today in the Fox Mtn network. They are staging at the Ross rd parking lot and will be using the trails on the south side of Fox mtn rd. They hope to be done by noon.

Please give them space and if you need to ride in that area, please be aware of the potential for traffic or just ride the other side.

Thank you.

We are pleased, and thankful, to be able to let you all know the situation with the cattle guard at the top of Lower Max has been addressed. A cow had gotten its hind leg trapped and needed to be extricated. Thankfully the cow is all right but the cattle guard needed to be, and has been replaced. We would like to thank everyone involved in this process and for the timeliness of getting it done.
