Your body language is always speaking, even when you aren’t saying a word.

We review a lot of tape, and the science is clear: it runs both ways. Your body doesn’t just react to how you feel—what you do actually dictates your internal state and sets the tone for your performance.

When you drop your posture after a bad shift, you are handing out two gifts:

1️⃣ To your team, it says: “I don’t care.”
2️⃣ To the opponent, it says: “You’ve beaten me.”

Whether it’s smashing a stick, shrugging your shoulders, or coasting on a pass that never came... these “tells” are a broadcast, and everyone in the building is tuned in.

And it compounds fast. Bad body language builds a bad reputation just as quickly as good body language builds belief.

This week’s challenge:
✅ Head up, shoulders back — always.
✅ Compete through the whole play.
✅ Give your team nothing to doubt.

Carry yourself like a pro, on and off the ice.

“Speed kills” is a track myth. 🛑

In team sports, it’s all about acceleration and deceleration. If you can’t hit the brakes and absorb force, your top speed doesn’t matter.

We challenge our interns to constantly absorb these major concepts from various expert coaches and blend them into their own practice.

As leading performance minds like Shawn Myszka point out: game speed relies on your ability to change direction and solve movement
problems in real-time. 

Don’t just train to run fast in a straight line. Train to stop on a dime. 🧠💨

Speed is a skill, not just a physical trait. ⚡️

You can’t just teach the technique (the content) and expect it to translate to the field. You have to coach the athlete to apply it in the game (the context).

We dive deep into these concepts during our weekly intern meetings, discussing how young coaches can build their own philosophies by borrowing big ideas from industry leaders.

Drawing from Karl Newell’s research on motor learning, true speed development bridges the gap between learning a movement and executing it subconsciously.

Open House ✅

Thank you to the educators and administrators who came out to see what we’re building.

Having leaders from two schools and boards in the room, leaning into the conversation, meant everything.

Hockey is growing — and so is the vision for how student-athletes are supported right here in York Region. This was just the first step.
