Your tightness might not be a muscle problem.
Your brain talks to your joints faster than any other tissue. If a joint is restricted, the nervous system increases tone around it. That “tight muscle” feeling? It may be downstream of a joint conversation.
And anatomist Jaap van der Wal showed there’s no clean separation between muscle, tendon, and fascia. It’s not individual cables — it’s a knitted sweater. The whole thing responds together.
That’s why you’ve been stretching the same spot for years and nothing sticks.
You’re treating threads. The problem starts upstream.
We go deep on this in our community, the science and the application.

Your glutes aren’t “deactivated” — they’re just getting poor afferent feedback from your hip joints. 🍑
Want to fix that? Try one of our glute classes inside the community! Link in bio, or just comment GLUTES and I’ll send you a link to start your 7-day free trial.
Once you’re in, head to the Class Library → Hip Classes and filter for anything labeled glutes.
I’d especially recommend starting with Crimes Against Your Glutes. You’re welcome. 😅

Stuck in FIFA traffic so I thought I’d make you guys this. Been thinking about this for a while and needed to get it out.
We service our cars, plan our vacations, don’t blink at the vet bill but the one thing holding all of it together? We put it last. Your body is the only thing you own that came completely free and can never be replaced. And most people don’t figure that out until the invoice shows up and there’s no negotiating it.
Everything else is replaceable. You’re not.

I cover all these training principles inside my community. Link in bio. There’s a 7 day trial so you can check it out.

You don’t need to spend thirty minutes warming up before you train. Joint health work belongs inside your programming. Every exercise has prerequisites. Your joints need to be able to express themselves freely to perform movements the way they were designed. That means choosing the right variation for where YOUR body is right now — building strength in the range you have — while simultaneously expanding that range over time.

This is exactly what we do with every single person we work with. Whether you’re working directly with me or one of my coaches — this is precisely what we help you figure out. What your body needs right now. What variations are right for you. And how to slowly expand your capacity until you can do whatever the hell you want with your body.
That’s the goal. Full autonomy over your movement. For life.

Most of the time when a muscle feels chronically tight — no matter how much you stretch it the conversation your body is really having is with your nervous system. Tightness is often a protective response. Your brain restricting range of motion because it doesn’t feel safe or strong in that position yet. And in those cases stretching alone will never fix it. You have to earn that range through strength and control.
Now is it sometimes an actual flexibility issue? Absolutely. Tissue extensibility is real. Some people genuinely need more length. But if you’ve been stretching the same spot for months with zero lasting change that’s your sign the nervous system is running the show. Not the muscle.
The fix isn’t always the same. But understanding WHY something is tight is always the right starting point.

If your shoulder keeps tweaking in the same spot, it’s not bad luck and it’s not just weakness — it’s a gap. A position your shoulder has strength around but has never actually been trained to handle. Most people press, rest when it hurts, then press again. The cycle never breaks because the gap never closes. Rotational control, end range strength, real overhead stability this is what fills it.

Want to learn how to close the gap? Try out the shoulder program in the community.

Your hip is a ball and socket joint — which means rotation is happening whether you train it or not. Even in linear movements like squats, lunges, and walking, rotation is always part of the equation.
Squats and lunges will challenge that rotational capacity to some degree — but it’s probably a good idea to train it independently too. And just like everything else, progressively load it over time.
I give you three examples here. But there are many to choose from — and which one is right for you depends entirely on where your capacity is right now.
These three aren’t complicated though. I think most people can use all of them to some degree.
Inside my community we go much deeper — self assessments, tons of variations, and a clear path to understanding what YOUR hips actually need. Link in bio.
