Sundre, Bearberry and a Weekend That Got Off the Beaten Path

Sometimes the best Alberta adventures start with a place you thought you already knew.

I’d driven past Starlite Diner more times than I can count. I’d visited Rocky Mountain House several times. And somehow, years had passed since I’d really explored Sundre.

That changed.

The Canada Adventure Seekers headed to Bearberry for our 2026 retreat, using this little corner of west central Alberta as our home base for a weekend of exploring, reconnecting, rediscovering and finding a few surprises along the way.

Because Alberta has a funny way of doing that.

You think you’re just going for a weekend…

Then suddenly you’re chasing views, discovering places you’ve driven past for years and wondering why you didn’t stop sooner.

From Sundre to Bearberry, this story takes you along for the adventure and shares some of the places and experiences that made this Canada Adventure Seeker retreat one to remember.

And yes, there’s probably a good cup of coffee involved. This is Canada, after all.

THE GANG IS ALL HERE! Well, most of us, EH!

The Seekers have officially landed in Sundre, Alberta, and what better way to kick off our annual Travel Seeker Retreat than with a good old-fashioned Canadian BBQ?

The gang gathered for our first group photo, followed by an incredible BBQ prepared by fellow Seeker Cary Horning and hosted by Seeker Andrea Horning at the beautiful Bearberry Cabins Alberta Canada in Sundre.

There were hugs, laughs, stories, gifts exchanged—and plenty of that unmistakable Canadian spirit that makes this group so special.

And then there are the sunglasses...

Thanks to the Town of Sundre Grab Bags, the Seekers are now proudly rocking their new shades. As you can see, we’ve taken “I wear my sunglasses at night” to a whole new level, Alberta style!

This is what happens when a bunch of passionate Canadian travel seekers get together: good people, great hospitality, big laughs, and a whole lot of adventure ahead.

The retreat has officially begun, eh!

Update- The lakes are good to go for recreational use again. They will be refilling from the James and Clearwater Rivers- May 16

Good to know.

Everyone is advised to stay off of Burnstick Lake so they can refill the water planes safely for everyone 🏞

Also Swan and Cow Lake are listed as refill areas 🌟

UPDATE: STAY OFF THE LAKE
Forestry 🌲contacted us this morning.
They will be using Burnstick Lake for water bombers🛩 to suppress the fire 🔥by Bearberry.

We are currently safe from the fires here 🔥

Thank you to all the emergency personnel working hard to keep this fire away and keeping everyone safe 🙏

If you're wondering how Burnstick Lake is thawing out at the end of April 2026 🧊

Still a lot of ice! This time last year, it was basically open water time.
