About Galla's Ballet Studio:
(Please read the entire description below prior to registering for lessons)
Instructor and former professional ballet dancer, Galla Simpson, is offering new group ballet classes in Vaganova ballet techniques from her at-home ballet studio beginning in September. The lessons focus on barre work (stretching exercises), ballet positions, centre exercises, spinning and jumping techniques.
*Please note that due to the small studio space and a busy schedule, Galla will not hold recitals like a traditional dance school. Galla’s Ballet studio is focused primarily on developing and enhancing technique and allowing students to learn Vaganova ballet fundamentals in a proper manner.*
About the Instructor:
Galla graduated from internationally acclaimed ballet academy, Perm State Choreographic College in 1986. The institution is regarded as one of the top ballet academies in Eastern Europe, rivalling the Bolshoi academy who has produced some of the world’s top ballet dancers.
Throughout Galla’s dance career she toured internationally with the Moscow City Ballet and the St. Petersburg Music Hall. Her dance repertoire includes professional productions of Swan Lake, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Carmen, Capellia, Sleeping Beauty, and Polovetski dances in Bolero Opera productions.
Galla has called Canada home since 1993, and PEI home since 2014. Since 2015, Galla has instructed PEI students in ballet to a high level and standard, becoming the personal coach of 6 students who were granted acceptance into professional ballet academies such as the Toronto National Ballet school and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. Galla’s students consistently win high gold and platinum in Canadian dance competitions in the ballet division.
The Vaganova Ballet Method:
The Vaganova method (the traditional method) provides a solid foundation in flexibility, proper muscle alignment and strengthening of the body. Learning and practising these methods greatly enhances students technical dance ability, agility, and strength.
Galla’s ballet classes are modelled after the repertoire of professional European ballet academies. The classes are designed to ensure proper technique is developed from the first lesson onwards. Proper hip/feet/leg alignment will allow ballet movements to be executed with dexterity and precision in a safe, yet graceful manner.
Total flexibility is not necessary to start ballet lessons. Flexibility will develop naturally as a result of the barre exercises given during the first part of the class. Galla teaches ballet techniques in a methodological manner to provide a progressive development of skills.
Furthermore, classical ballet techniques are widely transferable and prove to enhance skills in other dance forms such as acro, jazz, hip-hop, and even figure skating.
Most professional figure skaters and dancers of various genres take classes in ballet to enhance their refinement, grace and technique.
Instruction at the studio is provided for all levels of students, aged 11+ to adults, for those serious in learning advanced techniques, as well as students who would like to learn ballet in a more relaxed manner as a hobby in an at-home setting.Due to the small studio space, the maximum capacity is 5 students per class. Please note that due to Galla’s busy schedule, she will not be involved in any dance recitals or end of the year productions.
Viewings of open classes for students’ progress will be offered to parents and family once per school semester.
