🏒 New U18 DJHL Pilot Project for the 2026–2027 Season 🏒

The Don Johnson Hockey League (DJHL) has approved a two-year pilot project beginning with the 2026–2027 season, introducing association-based U18A, U18B, and U18C teams.

This new initiative is designed to provide a more structured and competitive league while allowing players to continue representing their home association.

What you need to know:

✅ The DJHL will operate association-based U18A, U18B, and U18C leagues beginning in the 2026–2027 season.

✅ Each division will play a 20-game regular season, followed by playoffs.

✅ Players will be selected through their association's tryout process, with teams finalized by October 1, 2026.

✅ Team rosters will consist of:
• 9 Forwards
• 6 Defencemen
• 2 Goaltenders

✅ Players selected to a DJHL U18A, U18B, or U18C team will not be eligible to play in the Metro Club Hockey League (MCHL) during the season.

✅ An exception may be granted for U18C goaltenders if an association requires them to also play in the MCHL to ensure adequate goaltending.

✅ Players may continue to play high school hockey while participating in the DJHL.

✅ Games will be non-contact and consist of three 10-minute periods.

Attendance Requirements

• Players must attend at least 70% of DJHL regular-season games to be eligible for the DJHL playoffs and HockeyNL Provincials.
• Attendance will be tracked through the electronic game scoring system.
• DJHL scheduling will be coordinated with high school hockey to help minimize scheduling conflicts.
• The minimum game roster remains 13 skaters and 1 goaltender.

This pilot project is an exciting step forward for U18 hockey, providing meaningful competition and a strong development pathway for our players. Feedback will be gathered throughout the two-year pilot to help shape the future of the league.
