Year two at the Salt Spring Island Challenge Cup is officially in the books — and what a weekend it was.
Close to 40 players, family members, and supporters made the trek over for an unforgettable May long weekend filled with sunshine, a little island rain, incredible food, ice cream runs, our annual team BBQ, and time spent with the best people we could ask for.
The memories made off the pitch are what make this trip so special… and we’re already booked for next year.
And then there was the football.
This year, Galileo FC went the distance — 6 games in 4 days, pushing ourselves through a true test of mind, body, and heart. Every player left it all on the field to earn a spot in the final, where we faced a resilient and talented local Salt Spring side in front of 300+ spectators in an incredible championship atmosphere.
While we fell just short of the title, our boys battled to the very end and earned a hard-fought, well-deserved 🥈 2nd place finish in our division.

Galileo FC caps off the 2025/26 season with a massive WIN 🏆

In a Howe Sound Soccer League Playoff Final for the ages, GFC defeated Sea-to-Sky FC for the third time this season—this time in a dramatic penalty shootout.

“The boys in green” struck first midway through the opening half, but the match quickly turned into a battle. Down a man early in the second half—and eventually reduced to nine—GFC dug deep as wave after wave of pressure came their way. A resilient defensive effort and clutch goalkeeping held the line… until the final moments, when S2S found a late equalizer to force overtime.

Exhausted but unbreakable, GFC continued to defend relentlessly through extra time. Then, in a moment of brilliance, they surged ahead 2–1 late in the second overtime period—only for S2S to respond yet again in the dying seconds, sending the match to penalties.

And that’s where GFC slammed the door shut.

A composed and clinical shootout, backed by outstanding goalkeeping, sealed the championship and crowned Galileo FC as 2025/26 Playoff Champions.

An incredible effort from a dedicated group of players—young and old—who put in the work week after week. This one was earned.
