🦈 Meet the Coach: Coach Trent McNicol
Head Coach- Norfolk Hammerheads
With 31 years of coaching experience and an NCCP Level 2 certification, Coach Trent leads our senior athletes in the Gold, Gold Development, Train to Compete and Masters programs- and provides on-deck support for our 13 & over swimmers at meets.
He also mentors the NHAC coaching team to ensure our swimmers receive a seamless, supportive, and high-quality training experience from day one.
💬 Coach Trent’s Philosophy:
“The focus of our program will be on stroke techniques and swimmer development. We will encourage fitness and fun while working on the fundamentals of our sport. There is a lot of hard work in this sport- and with that comes confidence and a positive attitude.”

🏊♂️ MEET COACH PHIL! 🦈
Coach Phil’s history with the Hammerheads goes all the way back to 1995, when he first joined the club as a volunteer coach!
At the time, the Hammerheads were a recreational program, but as the club grew, a competitive team was created for more advanced swimmers — with Phil stepping in to coach them.
In 2000, Phil became Head Coach of the Hammerheads, a role he held until retiring from coaching in 2013.
Now, more than 30 years after he first joined the club, Coach Phil is back on deck! 💙💚 He’ll be volunteering again this season as an assistant coach with our Pre-Competitive, Intro to Stroke and Stroke Development programs.
We’re incredibly fortunate to have Phil sharing his years of swimming and coaching knowledge with the next generation of Hammerheads. We appreciate him giving his time and expertise back to the club and are so excited to have him on deck for another great season!
