Well, today was quite literally a dream come true for us. When we left the formal education system several years ago it was, in part, because of a need and an expectation of something deeper and more meaningful for both children and educators.
Though ~99% of society is by definition literate, is there a corresponding love of literature, a facility with the written and spoken word, a sense of excitement and joie to read and write and speak to each other? It is our hope and joy that our Birds and Words learners, immersed in nature, free of external judgement, surrounded by adults who love the heck out of a good book, will continue to fall headlong into literature in all its guises.
We will read, write, draw, speak and take risks in equal parts in our little cabin laboratory as well as taking our journals into the fields, forests and hills that surround us. And if we're lucky, bag a big basket of mushrooms along the way!
