Unroll the Mat offers fun yoga classes and events, yoga training and beautiful retreats ~ Cat Doyle

There's something grounding about unrolling your mat somewhere new.

Every place has a different energy.

Different sounds.

Different views.

But the practice always has a way of making anywhere feel a little more like home.

One of my favourite parts of travelling is finding a quiet corner, taking a deep breath, and moving my body, whether that's on a beach, in the mountains, or on a hotel balcony.

The scenery changes.

The practice doesn't.

Where's the most memorable place you've ever practiced yoga?

Touch can be one of the most powerful tools we have as movement teachers, but only when it's offered with intention, clarity, and consent.

In Teaching Through Touch, we'll explore how to offer hands-on assists that help students feel safe, supported, and seen.

Through guided practice and real-time feedback, you'll build the confidence to know when to use touch, when not to, and how to adapt your approach for different bodies.

Whether you're new to teaching or looking to refine your skills, you'll leave with practical tools you can bring into your classes right away.

A yoga retreat is so much more than a getaway.

It’s the feeling of arriving somewhere new and knowing every detail has been thoughtfully considered.

From the people you’ll share the experience with, to the places you’ll explore, to the moments you’ll have to slow down and reconnect.

At Unroll the Mat, our retreats are designed to create meaningful experiences that go beyond the mat.

Small groups, intentional destinations, nourishing food, mindful travel, and the space to truly be present.

Because the best journeys aren’t just about where you go…

they’re about how you feel when you’re there.

Ready to unroll your mat somewhere new? I would love for you to join us!

Yin asks us to slow down.

To listen.

To soften.

If you've experienced the power of yin yoga in your own practice, maybe it's time to explore it more deeply.

I'm so excited to be leading a 40-Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training this fall in partnership with Pure Yoga Ottawa.

Whether you're a yoga teacher looking to expand your offerings, a dedicated yin student wanting to deepen your understanding, or simply someone who loves this practice, this training is for you.

Together, we'll explore anatomy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, sequencing, cueing, props, and the art of holding space—giving you the confidence to integrate yin with intention and understanding.

You don't have to want to teach.

You just have to love yin. 🤍

As movement teachers, our hands can offer support, guidance, and reassurance, but the most meaningful assists come from a place of awareness, respect, and trust.

In Teaching Through Touch, we’ll explore how to approach hands-on assists with more confidence and intention, including:

• Creating a sense of safety and connection
• Understanding when touch is appropriate (and when it isn’t)
• Supporting different bodies and individual needs
• Moving beyond “adjusting” and toward truly connecting

This workshop is about building the skills and awareness to make touch feel authentic, thoughtful, and supportive for both teacher and student.

A conversation after class stopped me in my tracks the other day.

I mentioned that my Yin Yoga Teacher Training was coming up, and one of my students stayed behind to chat.

She told me she'd love to take the training, but it wasn't in the budget right now.

Then she shared something that surprised me.

She was already teaching Yin Yoga.

When I asked where she'd done her Yin training, she said she hadn't.

She'd completed her 200-hour teacher training, but no specialized Yin training.

That moment reminded me why this work matters.

A 200-hour yoga teacher training gives you an incredible foundation. But Yin is its own practice.

It isn't simply "holding poses for longer."

It's understanding functional anatomy over aesthetic alignment.
It's knowing how to work with different bodies safely.
It's learning the purpose behind long holds, appropriate variations, the role of fascia, nervous system regulation, and the subtle art of creating a meaningful Yin experience.

These are nuances that deserve dedicated study.

That's why I believe continuing education isn't about collecting certifications.
It's about serving your students with greater knowledge, confidence, and care.

If you're teaching Yin (or hope to), your students deserve more than good intentions.

They deserve a teacher who understands the practice deeply.

That's exactly why I created this training.

✨ Learn the nuances.
✨ Build confidence.
✨ Teach Yin with purpose.

Enrollment for my October Yin Yoga Teacher Training is now open.

If you've been thinking about deepening your practice or your teaching, I'd love to have you there.

Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is pause.

Life moves fast, and it's easy to lose touch with yourself while keeping up with everything else.

Our Fall Yoga Retreat is an invitation to step away from the noise and spend one nourishing weekend moving your body, calming your mind, and reconnecting with what matters.

Think peaceful forest walks, yoga, meditation, nourishing meals, meaningful conversations, and time that belongs entirely to you.

If you've been telling yourself, "I really need a break," this is your sign.

Whenever someone joins a retreat, one of the first questions I get is:

"What should I pack?"

And while there are practical things you'll want to bring, I've found that what matters most isn't what's in your suitcase.

It's what you're willing to set down.

The pressure.

The expectations.

The constant need to be productive.

The most meaningful retreats happen when people give themselves permission to simply be.

Not to fix themselves.

Not to achieve something.

Just to rest, reconnect, and listen.

That's the energy behind our Back to Balance Fall Retreat.

If you've been craving a little more space to breathe, this may be exactly what you need right now.

If you're a yoga teacher trying to teach every style on the schedule, I want you to hear this:

You do not need to teach any and everything to build a successful career.

Power. Flow. Yin. Restorative. Sculpt. Barre. Hot.

More styles do not automatically make you a better teacher.

In fact, trying to be everything to everyone can make it harder for students to understand what makes you unique.

The teachers who build loyal communities and full classes are often known for something specific.

Something they genuinely love.

Something they've spent years refining.

Something that consistently draws students to them.

After 15 years of teaching yoga, everything I do seems to be getting better because I've chosen to go deeper instead of wider.
