On Friday I had the opportunity to co-host Coffee & Collab in Pickering, and part of my role was to lead a conversation about something I spend a lot of time thinking about — how brands actually show up.
I asked everyone to choose three words they want people to associate with their business.
That part is pretty easy.
The harder part is taking a step back and asking — is that actually what people are seeing?
Because we get so close to our own businesses. We’re busy running them, serving customers, putting out fires, posting when we remember to post 😬… and it’s easy to lose sight of how all those individual pieces come together from the outside.
Your brand isn’t just your logo. It’s your signage, your apparel, your website, your social media, your packaging, the way you communicate — all the little places your business shows up.
So the point of the exercise wasn’t to make everything perfect. It was simply to identify where there might be a gap between how you want your business to be perceived and how you’re currently showing up.
And then choose one thing you can do to close that gap.
Because every business has a budget, and spending more money doesn’t automatically make your brand stronger. The goal is to be intentional about where you spend it and make sure the things you invest in are actually helping your business show up the way you want it to.
That’s really at the heart of what we do at Shoreline. Sometimes you don’t need more random stuff with your logo on it. You need to figure out what makes sense for your business and what you’re actually trying to communicate.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and was willing to dig into it with me. I really enjoyed this one. 💛
