All right it's not Tuesday but it is what it is. Here we're working on a common mistake that Brett and a lot of other people make: leaning forward when they jab. The leaning forward, I think, comes from 2 places:

1. It's the weight transfer thing that we're always trying to teach, which, in my opinion, doesn't apply to the jab.
2. It is from thinking that you might be a little bit too far so we tend to lean forward to reach.

From here what I'm teaching, what I like to teach for anybody that has the leaning forward problem, is:

In your stance you keep about 60% of your body weight on that back leg. You keep it there when you jab. When you jab with your lead foot stepping forward, don't transfer your weight from the back leg to the front leg.

Keep the weight on the back leg but jab with that length of your arm. If you feel that you're too far, you can use that front step, your lead footstep, to be a little bit wider or you can just learn how to make your way forward to your range.

This way you got that weight loaded on your strong side, your back leg to throw that too. You can follow it with the lead hook. It also keeps your head from getting into a dangerous spot when you throw that jab, which a lot of guys can get caught for when they're throwing a very loose nonchalant jab while leaning forward. It allows you to maintain that good range to be able to study and to create opportunities

Post-run thoughts.

Discipline requires two things: friction and consistency. We know about the consistency part: in order for discipline to really be enrooted in your day-to-day habits, you need to have consistency.

Too many people are very on and off, yo-yoing with their discipline. Their discipline is there when life is great, easy, comfortable, and going in the right direction, and then when life gets hectic, crazy, and chaotic, discipline falls apart. That can't happen.

In order for you to build discipline, friction is really important. You can't do something that you really enjoy doing or you can't do it in an environment that is easy and perfect. If you try to build discipline in a perfect environment, when that environment gets imperfect, too stressful, or too chaotic, your discipline will fall apart.

We need to learn how to be disciplined in the best of times and in the worst of times. I always suggest to my clients that it's better to start building discipline in the worst times of your life or in times of your life where it's unfavorable to you or it's stressful.

For a lot of my parents this is the perfect time: when your kids are at school and then they have extracurricular activities and you're pretty much a full-time Uber driver for your kids. This is the perfect time to build your training, fitness, workout, and nutrition habits because if you can do it during this crazy period of your life, you can do it anywhere at any point in your life.

That's the missing key point to discipline: you can't start discipline when the time is perfect. You need to start discipline when the time is imperfect. That is where friction is created and with more friction comes more discipline, more success, more happiness, more confidence, and a sexier body.

Most of the stress that actually wrecks people isn’t the big stuff. It’s the small things you keep putting on the back burner.

That text you owe your mom after a fight you’re avoiding. The backyard project half-finished for months. Or something heavier — taking on more work than you can handle and never actually managing your time around it.

This is exactly what I got into with Rosie and Chris. None of these things feel urgent in the moment, so they just sit there. But a task lingering in the back of your mind has a real, measurable effect on your physiology — even when you’re not consciously thinking about it.

Here’s what I tell every client before we even start their program: go clear out the small stuff you’ve been avoiding first. Get it done. You’ll start with less stress, less anxiety, fewer open loops in your head, and a clearer starting point to actually build from.

Your body loves consistency — especially with food.

Digestion, hunger levels, blood sugar, energy — all of it runs better on a predictable schedule. When your eating times are all over the place day to day, your body doesn’t handle it well. And when you know you’re eating by a certain time, it’s not just better physically — it’s something you can actually plan around.

This hit home filming with Rosie and Chris, two photographers/videographers whose wedding days are long, unpredictable, and physically demanding. If you don’t prep for that in advance, you end up starving by dinner, inhaling a few thousand calories in one sitting, and feeling awful after. Or worse — getting home at 11pm or midnight and eating right before bed, which wrecks your sleep on top of everything else.

The fix isn’t complicated: get ahead of the chaos. Meals and snacks built into the day, even on your craziest shoot days, so you’re never running on empty by the time dinner rolls around.

If your schedule looks anything like theirs — long hours, unpredictable days, no real structure — this applies to you too.
