This is my drawing from the workshop called, By the Seaside: Seashells, Sunshine and Smiles, which was about getting what you needed from a day by the ocean.
Before starting the workshop, I knew I would draw water, sun, and seashells but that is all.
What came out of this simple process?
* a shell with the things I need to feel calm, supported, and whole in myself
* another shell (bottom right) where I released anger that I unexpectedly became aware of (I released the anger with the lines and added hearts so that anger could be healed in love.)
* a shell on the bottom left that gave me the message that being human and living in community with humans is complicated yet we are social and need to be in community
* the sun represents warmth, and support and as I worked on the flames I started to feel sad and I realised that sadness around the challenges of living with people is part of being human. The heart in the sun is to root the sadness in love and heal it as well.
The real wisdom that came out of this drawing was that we all need to be connected to people and we have people in our lives by choice or by family. Sometimes, we don't always get what we need, and sometimes we are part of situations with people that are challenging, but we do need to live in community and find ways to manage. Love came up as one of the big messages. Self-love to understand the challenges and love to ease the challenges.
This drawing brought me much support and insight and that is Art of Wellness. You can experience this guided, simple drawing method for yourself in a private session or my online community, The Empowerment Circle.

I love practising Reiki on myself and sharing it with others.
For me, Reiki is an incredibly gentle and supportive practice. It offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and bring greater awareness to your body, emotions, inner wisdom, and sense of peace.
One of the things I appreciate most is that Reiki can become part of your own self-care practice. Once you have learned Reiki, it is something you can continue to explore and practise for yourself.
That is one of the reasons I wanted to begin teaching.
My upcoming Usui Holy Fire® Reiki Level 1 training is designed for beginners who are curious about Reiki and would like to learn how to begin working with this gentle practice for themselves.
* In person in Pointe-Claire: September 26–27
* Small group training
* Live online: October 10–11
If you've been curious about learning Reiki, I'd love to welcome you.

Sometimes getting your motivation back takes time.
The difficult event is over. You're through the illness, the injury, the upheaval, the uncertainty. You're starting to feel more like yourself again.
But then you look around at everything that needs to be picked up and put back together, and somehow it all feels like too much.
You have your energy back; but perhaps not all of your energy. You know you want to move forward, but you don't quite have the motivation yet.
That's okay. Sometimes we expect ourselves to return to "normal" as soon as the difficult part is over. But our energy doesn't always return all at once.
There can be a quiet period of gathering ourselves, finding our rhythm again, and figuring out what really matters now.
Give yourself time. Give yourself patience. You don't have to force your way forward.
The motivation will return. And when it does, you may find that you move forward with a clearer sense of what you want, and what deserves your energy.
When you have been through a difficult time, know that your body, emotions, mind and spirit are still processing and healing. Sometimes this goes on in the background. We try to carry on do not yet feel fully able.
Trust that you will get back to who were if that is what you want, or you move forward into who are becoming. With time this process will complete itself.
Patience, trust, and time with a big dose of self-love.

What if learning Reiki became part of your self-care?
Life can be busy. Sometimes we spend so much time taking care of everything and everyone else that we do not take a pause for ourselves.
Reiki is a gentle practice that can give you time to slow down, relax, and reconnect with yourself.
Learning Reiki Level 1 gives you a way to practise Reiki on yourself and a simple tool you can continue to use as part of your own wellness and self-care.
You don't need to know anything about Reiki to begin. You simply need curiosity and a willingness to learn.
My Level 1 training focuses on understanding the foundations of Reiki, learning the basic hand positions, practising with others, asking questions, and becoming comfortable with the practice through experience.

Sometimes the exhaustion comes after the difficult part.
When we're going through something difficult, so much of our energy can go into simply getting through it.
Getting through the day.
Solving the next problem.
Managing what needs to be managed.
Holding ourselves together.
We may not even realize how much energy that is taking.
Then things begin to settle. We start to come out the other side. And suddenly, we feel tired. Really tired.
That doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.
Sometimes fatigue is simply part of the process of recovering from a demanding period of life. Your body and mind have been working hard, and they may need time to rest and replenish.
So if you've recently been through something difficult and you're wondering why you don't have your usual energy back yet, perhaps give yourself some time.
Rest is not doing nothing. Sometimes rest is part of moving forward at a manageable pace. As you rest, as you gain distance on that period in your life, and start to put the pieces together, often less energy is needed for coping and understanding and that allows you to com out of the fatigue.
Be kind to yourself. Listen to yourself and trust yourself. ❤️

We don't always know how much life affects us while we are it in.
It is as we come out of the raw state of coping and survival, and we start to experience the totality of what happened, and we realise that surviving is one thing but integrating what happened and moving to a place where, hopefully, we can see and accept the wisdom this experience gives us, is the next step. It is not, 'Great, life is normal. It is, OMG, there is more to work through.' But if you can move into this stage of listening to the learning and wisdom, your will be come out stronger and more resilient.
Life affects us. It doesn't have to define us.
But sometimes we don't understand how deeply something has affected us until we're coming out of it.
While we're in the middle of illness, injury, loss, change, or uncertainty, we're often focused on coping. Getting through today. Figuring out tomorrow. Doing what needs to be done.
Understanding can come later.
When there is finally enough space to breathe, we can begin to notice what we've experienced, what it taught us, and what we want to do with that wisdom moving forward.
The experience is part of your history. It doesn't have to become the definition of your future.
I invite you to look at the experiences of your life and see the wisdoms that may be waiting to help you. ❤️

What is Art for Wellness?
Art for Wellness is intentional drawing that helps you make positive changes in your life.
You begin with an intention or goal. With gentle guidance and simple lines and shapes, you create a drawing that becomes a conversation with yourself. As you spend time with your intention; seeing it, exploring it, and experiencing it, you begin to see yourself differently. New awareness, clarity, and possibilities naturally emerge.
Imagine if you spent 60 to 90 minutes working on an intention or goal. Progress would surely happen.
It is a fun, relaxing, and surprisingly powerful way to reconnect with yourself, access your inner wisdom, and move forward with greater confidence.
Explore Art for Wellness on my website. The link is in the bio.
This drawing is called The Mother Lineage and I drew about the challenges, gifts and wisdom found in my Mother's Lineage. As I connected with and drew the challenges, I also started to remember some of the good things. As I thought about and drew the gifts, I started to remember the wisdom that was given to me by my Mother and Grandmother. It was a beautiful shift from the things that were hard in Mothers Lineage to moving to a place of good memories and gratitude.
That is what happens with Art for Wellness. The process of drawing around an intention helps you connect with things barely remembered, forgotten, or not yet conscious. I find it amazing how drawing with intention has changed my life.

Today marks an important milestone.
After six weeks of writing, revising, editing, and refining, my Reiki Level 1 manual is complete and ready for my first class.
The process has been enlightening, helping me deepen my own understanding of why I love Reiki so much and why I want to share it with others.
I am excited to begin this journey in late September with the students who choose to learn with me. I look forward to watching each person begin their own unique Reiki journey and discover what this gentle practice means to them.
Every teacher begins as a student, and every Reiki journey begins with a single step.

Sometimes, the most important place we can visit isn't somewhere outside ourselves; it is within.
In our July Grounding Circle gathering, we created an Inner Sanctuary through a guided meditation. A place of a peace that you can return to whenever life feels busy or overwhelming.
The free replay is now available. Go to the link in my bio for The Grounding Circle or use this link: https://www.deborahesplin.com/courses/grounding-circle
