🎾 Tuesday Coaching Tip with Andy Sutton 🎾
This week, Andy Sutton, Director of Tennis at Premier Racquet Clubs Markham, discusses one of the most important fundamentals of a strong backhand — weight transfer.
Whether you’re hitting a one-handed or two-handed backhand, efficient weight transfer helps generate power, improve balance, and create a more consistent shot.
✅ Start in an athletic stance with your weight balanced.
✅ As you prepare, load your weight onto your back leg.
✅ Step into the shot and transfer your weight forward through contact.
✅ Finish balanced with your momentum moving toward your target.
Many players rely solely on their arms to create power. By using your legs and transferring your body weight through the ball, you’ll produce a heavier, more controlled backhand while reducing strain on your arm.
Remember: Power starts from the ground up. Good weight transfer allows you to stay balanced, recover faster, and hit a more penetrating backhand.
Watch Andy demonstrate this key movement pattern and try incorporating it into your next practice session!

🎉 Congratulations to PRC Mississauga's Karina & Luka! 🎾

Premier Racquet Clubs is incredibly proud to celebrate two of our outstanding High Performance athletes following another exceptional season.

At just 14, Karina Swaminath has established herself among Canada's top junior players, currently ranked No. 8 in U14 Singles and No. 6 in U14 Doubles. Her season has been highlighted by a U14 National Doubles Championship, multiple Provincial and Selection Singles & Doubles titles, and continued success competing at the U16 level.

At 16, Luka continues to impress, currently ranked No. 12 in U16 Singles and No. 8 in U16 Doubles, while also earning an ITF Junior World Ranking of 1376. His season featured a U16 Provincial Final, ITF J60 Doubles Final, U18 Selection Doubles titles, and selection to Team Ontario.

Both athletes are outstanding examples of what can be achieved through dedication, hard work, and trust in the PRC High Performance pathway. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished and wish them the very best as they prepare for the upcoming National Championships and future international competition.
