Being a Black man in this society can sometimes feel like youâre living in survival mode before you even realize youâre surviving.
Youâre taught to be strong.
Provide. Protect. Perform.
Donât complain. Donât cry. Donât show fear.
Keep working. Keep smiling. Keep moving.
But nobody talks enough about what carrying all of that can do to your mind.
As Black men, we can feel pressure to prove ourselves everywhere we go â at work, in business, in relationships, as fathers, as partners, and even within our own communities.
Sometimes youâre fighting battles nobody can see.
And because weâve been conditioned to say âIâm goodâ, we can go years without admitting:
Iâm tired.
Iâm overwhelmed.
Iâm hurting.
I need somebody to talk to.
Strength isnât pretending nothing affects you.
Strength is knowing when you need support.
Strength is protecting your peace.
Strength is praying AND talking about what hurts.
Strength is checking on your brothers.
Strength is choosing to heal instead of simply learning how to survive.
To every Black man carrying something silently:
You donât always have to be the strong one.
We need you here.
We need you healthy.
We need you mentally present.
We need you living â not just surviving. đ€
Check on your brothers. And when somebody asks how youâre doing, sometimes give them the real answer.
