Kimberley Indoor Tennis Courts

The New Tennis Court Surface is almost ready for Play.

Tomko grinded out the heaves on the old surface to level it out.

Put on a black asphalt overtop old surface. Then putting on the finishing coat and painting the lines.

The volunteers will be out on Wednesday cleaning up the dust, wiping the curtains, vacuuming chairs, etc.

And putting up the Nets. Yaay!

The Tennis Courts are expected to be ready for Play on Thursday Sept 3rd. (Check Booking Schedule closer to the Date)

Funds received will help us pay for the Court resurfacing currently in progress and the related 5 year loan.

Selkirk Secondary School has exclusive use of the KITC facility during the school year. The facility is an integral part of their Physical Education program especially during freezing temperatures and rainy days.

Court Resurfacing Progress:

Monday 24th: 10 Volunteers plus 2 Tomko contractors.

1. Tomko contractors were pressure washing and machine scrubbing the old surface.
2. Volunteers were squeegeeing water off the courts.

The new surface will adhere better to a clean surface.

We are getting a Facelift.

Thank you to the Volunteers who worked tirelessly over the weekend to prepare the court for a new Resurfacing.

The Contractor will be starting their work Monday Aug 24th.

We expect that the tennis courts will be completed and ready to be played on Tuesday, Sept 1.

Also just in time for the start of the Selkirk School year on Sept 9th. Selkirk uses the facility for their Physical Education program (Ulimate frisbee, dodgeball, tag, jogging, etc).

Today marks the start of our Annual Sponsor Fundraising Drive. Kimberley Indoor Tennis Courts (KITC) , a non profit facility, is a joint use facility shared with Selkirk Secondary School (Selkirk). The facility is an integral part of their Physical Education program. It is particularly valuable during freezing temperatures and rainy days.

This month we will be resurfacing the court before the start of the school year. Resurfacing was quoted at $38,000. Funds raised will help pay for the related 5 year loan.

Selkirk students can be seen in KITC jogging, sprinting, ultimate frisbee, tag, dodgeball, handball, etc and tennis.

History of the Kimberley Indoor Tennis Courts(KITC):

We attached a few newspaper articles that highlight the community efforts needed to save the Tennis Building.

The Tennis Building was relocated from the Ski Hill for Condo Development and moved to it current location beside tbe Selkirk School parking lot.

The articles were from 2001 to 2004.

A Special Plaque is posted on location to acknowledge the contributions of the Community. See attached photo.

BC Plus 55 Games
The 55+ BC Games are an important part of the BC sport system and the largest annual multi-sport event in the province. The Games offer the opportunity to celebrate sport and active living with other participants from across the province and experience the hospitality of the host community.

This years games will be held in Kamloops in September. Once again, Zone 7, which encompasses Kimberley, Cranbrook and all the way up the valley to Golden, will be well represented by Kimberley Indoor Tennis Courts (KITC) members and participants in the Tennis category.

Thirteen individuals will be participating. They can all been seen practicing and honing their game at the Rotary outdoor tennis courts and at KITC for the competitive and fun BC Plus 55 Games. The thirteen includes Sergio Spadafora, Harry Morrison, Lorraine W , Ammie, Brad B, David B, Lannie B, Bob Hodgson, Dave J, Maureen J, Steve C, Lynda C and Anonymous.

Tennis Anyone!

Now that the weather is warmer, many of our KITC members have started playing tennis outdoors.

They can be seen playing tennis in Kimberley at the PUBLIC tennis courts at Rotary Park.

Feel free to Drop in Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 10 am weather permitting. (Yes, it will stop raining soon)
