💃🔴 FLAMENCO FUN FACT #2:
Those dots have a name!
Remember our polka dot story from two days ago? Here’s the continuation! 👀
In Spanish, polka dots are called “lunares” — literally related to luna, meaning moon. 🌙
The word lunar can refer to a small spot or mark on the skin, like a beauty mark. Over time, “lunares” became the name for the round dots we see on flamenco dresses.
So when you see a flamenco dancer covered in lunares…
🌙 You’re literally looking at little “moons” dancing! 💃
And that’s part of what makes flamenco fashion so playful, bold and unmistakable. ❤️
Did you know?
💃🔴 FUN FACT FLAMENCO #2:
¡Esos lunares tienen nombre!

💃🔴 Why all the polka dots?
FLAMENCO FUN FACT #1:
This week, we’re talking polka dots — or “lunares” — and why they became such an iconic part of flamenco fashion! ❤️🖤
FUN FACT: Polka dots weren’t originally created for flamenco! 👀
The pattern became fashionable in Spain during the 19th and 20th centuries, and eventually found its way into flamenco dresses, where the circles became closely associated with the traditional traje de flamenca.
And honestly… dots + ruffles + movement = ✨FLAMENCO MAGIC✨
🇪🇸 What about you? Are you team big polka dots or small polka dots?
Stay tuned for Fun Fact #2 — coming in two days! 💃
💃🔴 FUN FACT FLAMENCO #1:
Y seamos honestos… lunares + volantes + movimiento = ✨MAGIA FLAMENCA✨
