👏 Thank you to the City of Burlington for updating the accessible parking signage at Sherwood Forest Park!
These new signs are an important step toward creating a more inclusive and accessible community. Unfortunately, it is still apparent that many park users do not fully understand how accessible parking works.
The striped area beside an accessible parking space is called an access aisle. It is not an extra parking space or an area to stop "just for a minute." It is an essential part of the accessible parking space.
The access aisle provides the room needed for:
♿ Wheelchair ramps and lifts to deploy safely.
🚶 People using walkers, canes, crutches, or other mobility devices to enter and exit their vehicles.
🤝 Caregivers and support workers to safely assist passengers.
🛡️ Safe access away from moving traffic.
💙 Independence, allowing people with disabilities to participate fully in everyday life.
The striped space isn't empty—it's someone's doorway to independence. Without it, they may not be able to safely leave or return to their vehicle.
If you witness a vehicle parked in or obstructing an accessible parking space or access aisle, please help protect accessibility in our community by reporting the infraction to the Halton Regional Police Service Non-Emergency Line at 905-825-4777. Operators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Together, we can ensure accessible parking remains accessible for those who truly need it.
Leave the Space. Share the Access. 💙
Councillor Paul Sharman, Ward 5, City of Burlington and Region of Halton

A huge thank you to Coach Kyle and the U18 Girls team for spending last Thursday evening with our Embracing Ability Program athletes! 💙
We loved watching the friendships, laughter, and smiles shared on the field. The girls were incredibly kind, enthusiastic, and supportive, helping create a fun and welcoming experience for everyone. We're especially grateful that they chose to honour their commitment to our athletes, even with Canada playing a big FIFA match that evening. Their thoughtfulness and dedication made a meaningful difference.
Thank you for making such a positive impact on our athletes, volunteers, and families. We can't wait to welcome you back again!
