About Walk for Life
The AUSC Region 5 Walk for Life initiative grew out of the Region’s collaboration with TAFISA, with the aim of promoting participation in physical activity across the 10 AUSC Region 5 countries.

As far back as 2018, the AUSC Region 5–TAFISA partnership identified the organisation of an African World Walking Day, or “Walk for Life,” as one of its key objectives laying the foundation for the regional movement we celebrate today. 🙌🏾

About World Walking Day (WWD)

World Walking Day is not simply a walking competition. It is a global Sport for All movement led by The Association For International For All (TAFISA) using walking to bring people together around physical activity, health, inclusion, community and shared causes. TAFISA describes the event as connecting people across countries and time zones through a global relay of movement and solidarity.

Minister Kelebeng leads by example at the UB Marathon! 🇧🇼🏃‍♂️

​Spotted earlier today: Minister of Sport and Arts, Hon. Jacob Kelebeng, joined thousands of running enthusiasts at the 5th Edition of the University of Botswana (UB) Marathon, taking on and completing the 10km race through the streets of Gaborone.

​By stepping out onto the course, Hon. Kelebeng put his fitness to the test and championed the Sport for All movement, demonstrating how everyday physical activity builds healthier, more active, and inclusive communities.

The Minister was joined by the Deputy Permanent Secretary & TAFISA Africa Vice- President Ms. Boineelo Hardy and MOSA officials, inspiring Batswana across the nation to embrace active lifestyles and make fitness a daily priority.

The 30th TAFISA World Congress Secretariat joined the Beyond 40: Stride by Stride Walk this morning at the Three Dikgosi Monument in Gaborone, led by the Chief Walker, Minister of State President, Defence and Security, Hon. Moeti Mohwasa.

The 30th TAFISA World Congress General Manager, Mr Thuto Molebatsi, joined the walk alongside the Secretariat team.

The participation was an important opportunity to advance the Sport for All message and demonstrate how physical activity can promote healthier, more active and inclusive communities. It also provided a platform to engage participants, communities and various stakeholders about the upcoming 30th TAFISA World Congress, TAFISA’s global Sport for All movement, and TAFISA World Walking Day.

TAFISA (The Association For International Sport for All) promotes accessible and inclusive physical activity for everyone, regardless of age, ability or background. This vision strongly aligns with the Beyond 40 initiative, which encourages people to stay active, healthy and connected through walking.
