🇧🇧🏐 Team Barbados' historic campaign at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U18 World Championships in The Hague, Netherlands, has come to an end.
In a must-win final Pool B match against New Zealand, Joshua Ashby and Cael Greenidge were aiming for a third-place finish that would have secured a place in the Round of 24.
After dropping the opening set 21-11, the Barbadian duo responded with determination in the second set, producing some of their best volleyball of the tournament. They battled back to level the score at 17-17, but were unable to break New Zealand's serve as their opponents closed the match with four consecutive points to win 21-17 to close the set and match.
While the results did not fall Barbados' way, Joshua and Cael represented the island with pride, resilience, and heart against the world's best players in their age group. This experience marks an important milestone in their development and a historic moment for Barbados beach volleyball.
We are incredibly proud of their journey, their commitment, and the way they represented Barbados on the world stage.

The rain impacted the lower division fixtures yesterday but not before two very exciting matches were completed at Free Hill.
Blazers’ division two men came from two sets down to repeat their first round victory over Apex 15-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, 15-11. After opening a 5-0 lead in the deciding set, Blazers maintained the advantage to ease home.
Carlton avenged their first round loss at home to Affinity Plus Club United with a thrilling victory over the hosts 25-18, 21-25, 16-14. Club needed the victory to close out their capture of the division three crown.
After both teams split the opening two sets, the scores were locked up to five in the decider. Club took charge powering to 8-5 before a serving error gifted Carlton control as the latter eased to lock at eight and powered to 11 before Club broke the serve.
Club fought to reach 10-11 and 12-13 locking at 13 and 14. Six footer Rhea Bryant proved to be the difference as her attack held firm for Carlton to take the contest 16-14 just before the rains returned.
Over at Hill Road, Spikenards’ division three women pipped Foundation United 18-25, 25-19, 15-10. The rains washed out the fixture between Chargers’ division three men and Foundation.
Deacons division three women dropped the first set to Hill Road before taking the home match 23-25, 25-22, 15-13. The division two women’s match between Deacons and Hill Road was washed out.

Club United maintained their drive towards capturing the division three volleyball title with an exciting win over host Foundation United 25-19, 25-23 on Sunday night at Church Hill, Christ Church.
With the threat of rain, Club marched to 14/1 and 40 points by exploiting poor serving, defence and attack to take the first set. Foundation rebounded by powering to 16-12 in the second set. However, a slew of errors by Foundation then saw Club locking the scores and then finishing off the match in straight sets.
The action at UWI, Cave Hill saw division three 3KFC Deacons men holding off Police 26-24, 25-23. Deacons made it two in two as their division two women beat UWI 25-17, 25-18.
Up east, Chargers scored a double strike at King George V Park, St. Philip. Chargers division three dismissed Development Volleyball in Motion 25-16, 25-16. Chargers division two women then came from a set down to edge the home team Blazers 21-25, 25-16, 15-9.

Twelve lower division volleyball teams received an unexpected treat when their fixtures were moved indoors yesterday to the Wildey Gymnasium.
Carlton’s division three men’s team enjoyed that treat to the fullest when they battled from a set down and game and match point at 11-14 to upset Deacons 18-25, 25-21, 17-15.
Ironically Deacons thought they had won the decisive third set when they scored a kill at 14-11. However, the officials then realised that one of the Deacons players who was substituted earlier returned to the court without an official substitution being requested or documented.
That reprieve saw Carlton surging to lock at 14 and then 15. At that stage Deacons spiked away two successive balls to end the drama in defeat.
UWI also came from a set down to take their division three clash from the BDF men 21-25, 25-12, 15-10. The other men’s game played was a division two clash between Hill Road and Advent with Hill Road taking the win 25-21, 25-18, 25-21.
That was part of a triple strike by Hill Road as their division two women dropped the first set to Burger King Clapham Toners before winning 20-25, 25-22, 15-8. Hill Road division three team stopped Spikenards’ women 25-15, 26-24.
