Our wonderful club has just hosted the Yeppoon Pickleballl festival which was a huge success. Our committee lead by Robyn and the many volunteers made it a tremendous experience for all who attended. With players travelling from New Zealand, Tasmania, Victoria, NSW and all around Queensland to participate in the QPT over three days and the Retro 40+ age tournament also over three days, plus some fun events in between. I had the pleasure to coach some players before these events and to see the improvement, commitment and the enjoyment you showed during your matches was very rewarding, with the majority of you winning medals rangeing from gold to bronze. Congratulations to all. Well done 👏👏👏👏. On a personal note I would like to thank my mixed partners Kim and Ann Louise who were late substitutes and who had to step up a grade to play 4.0+ in a quality field. Thank you both you were super. A.L and I received a silver medal it a hard fought 3 setter. Thanks to Dave and Charl for partnering myself in the men’s doubles where we played extremely well, with Charl and I receiving silver in another hard fought 3 setter. Also a silver in the men’s 60+ 4.0+ and bronze in the men’s 40+ with Charl playing brilliantly to win gold. We had time to unwind on the Saturday night with a wonderful retro dinner and a night of dancing to the superstar DJ Paul Reid who kept the dance floor humming. See you soon in Yeppoon.

Finished the Queensland Championships doubles in the men’s over 65 3.5+ with my partner John from NSW with a gold medal. We finished top of our pool with five tough wins before eventually winning gold in 3 tough sets 8-11, 11-7, 11-7. A great spirit within all the matches as you would expect. Cheers.

Ventured down to the Queensland Pickleball Championships at Morayfield on Tuesday. Playing singles over 60’s 4.0+, two strong pools of 6 players in each. Struggled a little with the indoor courts but happy with 2 wins and three losses to finish 4th in my pool. Photo one my pool of combatants, they are great bunch of blokes with loads of skills, enjoyed every match. Photo two were the winner and runner up from the second pool. Photo three Bruce and a mate spotted the camera and had to jump in, Bruce is playing in the 70+ division in the singles and is undefeated in the pool rounds. Later today I will be competing in the men’s 65’s doubles 3.5+ with my partner John from NSW, we will have ten other teams competing against us, so here’s hoping. Cheers

Here’s the Yeppoon contingent who played in Mackay on the weekend in very windy and sometimes wet conditions. The organisers did a wonderful job in the end to move games to different locations and get the tournament completed. Congratulations to all players who participated and a lot of medals were won by this talented bunch. On a personal note played men’s singles 50’s + above 3.5 and came away with a silver with David Lurie turning the tables from our pool match to win gold. Then followed up with men’s open doubles with my partner David where we finished equal fourth missing out on a count back to make the semis. We were very happy how we played together. Then the following day played mixed 50’s+ with my partner Colleen where we had hard fought pool matches but improved each match to take out the gold medal. Looking forward to to Australian Masters Championship and then the State championships, hoping the body will hold up, singles is a drain on the feet. Cheers

The paddle for life day was a fantastic success, with the aim of raising awareness for organ donation and for kidney health. The Pickleball ball courts were open from 11.30am until 8pm with a gold coin donation to play, a multi draw raffle, Dave’s popular sausage sizzle and people’s generous donations we were able to reach our goal of $3000.00 which will be donated to the kidney foundation of Australia. A huge thank you to the businesses who donated raffle prizes, our tennis-pickleball club for donating the courts, to all out tireless helpers and to all the people who turned up to support the day. It was wonderful to see so many first timers having a go at pickleball and enjoying the experience. Such an awesome day. Cheers
