Rowers look after rowers.

While out rowing this morning, BGPS Club members Simon and John spotted a coach from another club whose tinny had broken down and was drifting on the river. They headed back to our Club, launched a tinny, and returned to assist, towing him safely back to his club.

A great reminder of the strength of our rowing community, the importance of checking your equipment before heading out, and always keeping an eye on what’s happening around you on the river.

🇫🇷🚣 Congratulations to our Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club crew, Loose in Toulouse, on completing the iconic Rallye du Canal du Midi in France!

Over 4½ days, the crew rowed 167km from Toulouse to Béziers, overcoming challenging heatwave conditions and navigating 41 locks along the way with the invaluable support of their dedicated land crew.

To top off an incredible adventure, the team was honoured with the Challenge Andre Dandine Cup, recognising their outstanding sportsmanship and spirit throughout the event.

This is an achievement to be immensely proud of and a wonderful example of the resilience, camaraderie and sense of adventure that rowing creates.

If you've ever thought about returning to rowing, or trying something new, we'd love to welcome you to Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club. From peaceful mornings on the Brisbane River to international adventures like this, rowing offers lifelong friendships, fitness, challenge and experiences you'll never forget.

🇫🇷🚣 The adventure begins!

Our Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club crew has arrived safely in Toulouse and is ready for the Rallye du Canal du Midi. Looking fantastic in their crew kit, they're set for an unforgettable rowing adventure through southern France.

And yes, their boat is called Loose in Toulouse. We couldn't have picked a better name ourselves!

Wishing the crew safe rowing, fair weather and a wonderful experience representing Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club overseas. 🇦🇺🇫🇷

Sunday small boats.

One of rowing's quiet contradictions.

You're never really alone out here, yet so much of the experience is personal. The pursuit of balance. The search for rhythm. The challenge of making each stroke just a little better.

And every now and then, everything lines up.

If you've ever wondered what keeps our Sunday scullers coming back, this is a pretty good example. There's always room for another boat alongside.

Be super careful around our pontoon at the moment. There’s a very big barge moored about 150 meters upstream of our pontoon. With a following current crews cornering near the South Brisbane Sailing Club bend will come upon this river hazard very quickly. Coxes, Coaches and bow seat be aware.

Strong clubs are built by volunteers.

This morning's job: gurneying the pontoon to keep it clean, safe and ready for the week ahead.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who continue to give their time and energy around the shed. Your contribution helps create a better experience for every member of Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club.

👏💙🚣

Row. Coffee. Compare notes. Repeat.

One of the great traditions at Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club is the post-row coffee stop, where conversations shift from stroke rates and split times to laughs, friendships and plans for the next outing.

Because while we love rowing, it's the people who keep us coming back. ☕🚣

🚣‍♀️ 167 kilometres. 41 locks. One incredible team

On 17 August, a group of Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club Masters women will head to Toulouse, France, to take on the legendary Rallye Canal du Midi. Over six days they’ll cover 167 kilometres, navigating 41 locks along one of Europe’s most historic waterways.

What makes this challenge even more remarkable is that the boat can’t travel through the locks. That means 41 times the crew will need to lift, carry and relaunch the boat, supported by a dedicated cycling team travelling alongside them.

The rowing squad comprises Julie T, Julie H, Marian, Rose, Kate and Vanessa, supported on land by Laurie, Joe and Kieran whose role is to help extract, transport and relaunch the boat at each of the 41 locks. It is the very definition of a team effort.

Those who have spent time around the shed in recent months will have been admiring this group quietly putting in the work. Early mornings on the river, extra kilometres, gym sessions and countless hours preparing together.

This adventure is a reminder that rowing is more than a sport. It’s fitness, friendship, challenge and community. It’s also proof that the opportunities in rowing don’t end when school or university does.

Whether you’re looking to return for fitness, competition or simply the camaraderie of being part of a crew again, there is a place for you at Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club.

We wish the entire team safe travels and every success in France. The Brisbane & GPS Rowing Club family will be cheering you on from Brisbane.
