What a day for the Sydney Interclub!

This time we had 80 competitors on the mats, from yellow through to green belt, and what stood out most was the attitude of everyone who came along.

There was such a friendly atmosphere and so much good sportsmanship. People were pushing themselves, supporting each other and making sure everyone had a good experience. We even had competitors putting their hands up for extra fights when we needed to make matches work. Some were already exhausted but still said yes to another match just to challenge themselves a little more.

We don’t believe competition is everything in judo, but we do believe people who want to compete should have the opportunity to do it in an environment where they feel comfortable, matched with people around their own grade and ability, and able to test themselves without all the pressure.

And these events are about more than just competing. They’re also an opportunity to referee, volunteer, help out, learn something new and contribute in different ways. Ultimately, it’s about bringing the judo community together and creating more opportunities for everyone.

A massive thank you to all of our competitors, referees and volunteers. We were genuinely blown away by how many people stepped up to help.

A huge thank you to Anthony and Jordan for running such an insightful seminar and sharing their knowledge with everyone.

And thank you to Seb for putting together this amazing video and capturing the day so well.

Finally, a big thank you to Icelandic Glacial Water for keeping everyone hydrated throughout the day. Those new juices are next level!

See you at the next one.

Get ready for another beginner-friendly Interclub Competition, this time at Newington Armory!

We’re opening this one up to adult yellow, orange and green belts from across Sydney.

There aren’t many opportunities for adults at the lower grades to compete, test themselves and gain experience in a low-pressure environment, so we created one.

The afternoon is all about learning, getting good mat time and building competition experience:
• Seminar
• Rounds of randori
• Competition, with everyone matched as fairly as possible by grade, weight and experience.

If you want to see more events like this for lower grades, come along and support it! The more people who get involved, the more opportunities we can keep creating.

Only 2 weeks left to register!

Register via the link below or search for the event on Smoothcomp.

Congratulations to Daniel on winning a silver medal in Kata at the Australian Judo National Championships.

Daniel has put countless hours into refining the details that make kata such a unique part of judo. The precision, control, timing, and understanding required are incredible, and it's great to see that dedication recognised on the national stage.

What often goes unnoticed is that judo offers many different pathways. Kata is one of them. It is a way to develop a deeper understanding of movement, technique, balance, and the principles that sit at the heart of judo.

We're proud of Daniel and everything he has contributed to the club, both on and off the mat. Congratulations on a fantastic result and a well-earned silver medal.
