They only get bigger and better 👌

The credit goes to all the volunteers that step up to support a greater experience for everyone participating.

We would like to thank all the volunteers who contributed.

To the seminar presenters who put on a masterclass for everyone in attendance. The referees, timekeepers, and mat marshals who facilitate every match. The photographers and videographers that capture the highs and the lows. The coaches who support the participants throughout the seminar and competition. The sponsors who support the initiative! Finally, the participants who come together to share in the goal of mastering their skill.

You can guarantee each one of these people want these opportunities to get bigger and more frequent.

Stay tuned for the next one! 🗓️

It all kicks off very soon! 🤯

We start with the seminar, which can’t wait for anyone.

Check-in from 12.30. Seminar at 1:00: warm-up, strategies, technique, with Jordan & Anthony Kouros.

Following this, there will be few or as many as five randori to test these skills as a prelude for the competition.

Competition entries have closed, but there will be a great atmosphere to get behind as everyone takes the mat. You will be expected to adopt a fellow judoka – someone you don’t know –, and cheer for them and their success. Spectators are welcome, but it will be crowded, so you will be expected to stand on the side of the mat to shout and cheer for your team.

The testing ground for technique is competition!

“There is always progress where there is effort” - Jigoro Kano

The outcome is irrelevant, and whether you triumph or you fall, the credit goes to those in the arena.

What we expect is that everyone walks into every match with focus on the variables they can control to apply their skill. And walk off with feedback that will inform their approach to improving as they move forward in their development.

Everyone in the team has trained hard and deserves to be out there competing.

We’re behind you all 100%

Welcome to the intermediate class 🟠

This class educates members on the skills important to the application of techniques in the judo syllabus, and offers opportunity to use them live.

Yoko tomoe nage 🥋

To efficiently throw your opponent over with this technique requires key aspects of balance breaking and body positioning. It is a sacrifice throw in which you give up your own position, dropping beneath your opponent’s centre, to guide them over. The side variation (yoko) opens the angle, taking uke over the shoulder rather than straight overhead.

Intermediates run weekly on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 pm at UTS.
