Happy 75th Birthday to all the Royal Australian Navy Clearance Divers that those in the Army affectionately call Squids aka Bubbleheads. Congratulations on all you do and have done in service to the nation. “United and Undaunted”!

Today we commemorate 75 years of the Royal Australian Navy Clearance Diving Branch — a proud legacy of courage, professionalism and service. Since its formation in 1951, generations of Clearance Divers have operated in some of the most demanding and dangerous environments imaginable, earning a reputation as one of Australia’s most capable and respected military communities.

From the rivers and waterways of Vietnam, to mine countermeasure operations during the Gulf War, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan to countless maritime security, counter-terrorism and humanitarian operations at sea, Clearance Divers have consistently answered the nation’s call. Their work has often been conducted out of the spotlight, requiring exceptional skill, resilience and teamwork in the face of significant risk.

As we mark this milestone anniversary, we honour those who have served before us, remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and acknowledge the families who have stood beside them. To all past and present Clearance Divers, thank you for 75 years of unwavering service to Australia.

We have had just over 1,400 CD’s qualify in 75 years. Each and everyone earned the title Royal Australian Navy Clearance Diver.

United and Undaunted
