It was an absolutely fantastic weekend in the nation’s capital at Canberra Off Road Model Car Club for the 6th round of the 2026 NSWRL presented by Campbelltown Hobbies and RPM Hobbies
The club delivered on and off track with amazing food in the canteen and an absolutely prime track surface that grooved up and had low tyre wear!
There was a slight mishap with the trophies meaning they were not ordered, but thanks to an idea from Michael Stone, it was unanimously decided that the value of the trophies be distributed to the Junior Drivers instead! Thanks for the idea, Stoney and shout-out to everyone for supporting the idea and helping the Juniors of our sport!
2wd Junior
Only two drivers were entered for this round of the NSWRL, but they certainly put on a show! Lance Jurkovic in his first ever race meeting took the TQ spot with a 57.650 top 5 average laps ahead of Xavier Orr with a 1:00.512 top 5 average. In the finals it would be Lance taking A1 and A2 whilst Xavier snuck through for victory in A3. Overall, the result would be Lance Jurkovic 1st and Xavier Orr 2nd.
2wd Stock
2wd stock was hotly contested with many drivers coming to test ahead of Nationals in just two months’ time. Samuel Muffett snuck in for TQ with a 25.983 ahead of Michael Stone with a 26.096 and Lachlan Williams with a 26.495. Stone and Muffet were the class of the field for the day. A1 was Muffett 1st, Stone 2nd and Williams in 3rd. A2 saw Sam make some crucial mistakes and drop back to 4th, allowing Stone to take 1st, Scott Hill 2nd and Bradd Vercoe 3rd. A3 was a nail bighter. Muffett and Stone would go back and forth the whole race with Muffett Sneaking through in the closing laps and snagging the win by 0.986 seconds. Stone in 2nd and Williams in 3rd. The final result came down to one point. 431 for 1st and 430 for 2nd courtesy of Hot lap bonus points. Overall, it would be Michael Stone 1st, Sam Muffett 2nd and Lachlan Williams 3rd.
2wd Modified
The TQ honours for Mod would go the way of Lachlan Donnelly with a 24.359 ahead of Jarod Ment with a 24.633 and Matthew Couper with a 25.143. In A1 Donnelly cruised to the win ahead of Ment who was battling with Couper for most of the race. A2 saw Donnelly work his was from 12th due to a reverse grid start to take the win ahead of Ment and Peter Seckold in 3rd. A3 saw Jarod and Lachlan battle the whole race with Ment taking the win, Donnelly 2nd and Couper 3rd. Overall, it would be Lachlan Donnelly 1st, Jarod Ment 2nd and Matthew Couper 3rd.
4wd Stock
As it had been in 2wd stock, Sam Muffett took TQ in 4wd also with a 23.858 ahead of Michael Stone with a 24.407 and Scott Hill with a 24.666. A1 saw Muffett Check out and take a comfortable win over Hill who held of Stoney after he made mistakes to take 2nd by 0.2 seconds with stone settling for 3rd. A2 Scott Hill took the win in a tense race with many lead changes. He edged out Williams by 0.6 seconds with Muffet 0.2 further back in 3rd. A3 was yet another great race. Muffett Lead most of the race but Stone put in a late charge after early issues and clawed back nearly taking the wing in the closing stages. Muffett would hold on for the win ahead of Stone with Hill in 3rd further back. Overall, the podium was Sam Muffett 1st, Scott Hill 2nd and Michael Stone 3rd.
4wd Mod
Donnelly kept the 2wd momentum going into 4wd qualifying taking TQ with a 22.570 ahead of Couper with a 22.786 and Ment with a 23.047. Finals was waayyyy more interesting though……. Ment would battle from 3rd on the grid to take the win in A1, with Donnelly holding off Couper for 2nd. A2 Donnelly took the win with a patient drive from the back of the grid edging out Ment in 2nd and Couper in 3rd. A3 saw Donnelly make more mistakes thank I think anyone has ever seen him make in one race. This allowed Ment to take 1st just ahead of Couper with Donnelly 3rd. Overall it would be Jarod Ment 1st, Lachlan Donnelly 2nd and Matthew Couper 3rd.
2wd Vintage
Scott Griffiths took TQ with a 29.837 ahead of Devon Middleditch with a 29.921 and Samuel Hynd with a 31.814. A1 saw Devon Take a comfortable win over Griffiths and Daniel Hammers in 3rd. A2 Devon once again took the win with Hammers 2nd and Griffiths 3rd. A3 was a repeat of A2 with Devon 1st, Hammers 2nd and Griffiths 3rd. Overall the order was Devon Middleditch 1st, Daniel Hammers 2nd and Scott Griffiths 3rd.
2wd Truck
Daniel Hammers took TQ with a 29.644 ahead of Nick Poole with a 30.886 and Brendan Orr with a 31.983. A1 saw Hammers take the win ahead of Simon Shaw and Brendan Orr. In a2 it was Brendan taking the win ahead of Andrew Kerek and Hammers in 3rd. A3 saw Shaw take the win ahead of Orr in 2nd and Nick Poole 3rd. Overall the order was Brendan Orr 1st, Simon Shaw 2nd and Daniel Hammers 3rd.
And that’s a wrap on a fantastic event!
The Canberra club pulled out all the stops and provided a top-notch track and a smoothly run event for an enjoyable weekend in the bitter cold!
