People ask me what my "secret" is for coaching runners through their first ultra.
Honestly? 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞.

No magic formula. No secret workout hiding in a drawer somewhere. Just the fundamentals, done properly, every single week.

Knowing the runner behind the training plan. Checking in regularly, not just during race week. Doing what I said I'd do, when I said I'd do it. And showing up with the same consistency I ask of you.

That's it. That's the whole approach.

🏔️ 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥

The Six Foot Track Marathon recently announced a change that's sparked plenty of discussion in the trail running community: women will now have an additional 30 minutes to finish the race compared to the men's cutoff.

Some see it as a positive step towards increasing female participation and creating more opportunities in the sport. Others believe cutoff times should remain the same for everyone.

There's plenty to consider on both sides, and in this week's Hot Topic, I share my perspective and the reasoning behind it.

Taper week messes with everyone's head. You feel sluggish, you start doubting your fitness, and the temptation to squeeze in "one more session" is real. Get it wrong, and you show up to the start line either flat or undercooked.
