Growth doesn’t always feel exciting.
Sometimes it feels foreign, maybe even a little icky.

Sometimes it feels uncomfortable enough to make you want to stop.

I’m learning to pause before I listen to that feeling.

To ask myself..
Is this my body telling me I’m not safe?
Or is this simply the discomfort of doing something new?
Because those aren’t the same thing.

Sometimes the feeling is just unfamiliar…
and that’s okay.

Just a little honest share from this morning 🤗

For a little while there I thought I was building a fire.

Every time I had a new insight, I’d rush to share it.
I’d post. I’d write. I’d create.

The fire would roar, but then… it would burn out.
I’d go quiet for weeks or months and convince myself that maybe I wasn’t cut out for this after all.
That maybe the people who show up consistently are just built differently.

Lately I’ve realised I wasn’t building a fire.
I was burning cardboard.

Cardboard burns hot and bright, but only for a moment.
A real fire takes something different.
You gather the sticks, chop the wood, protect the ember.
You learn when to feed it and when to simply let it breathe.

The people I admire didn’t build lasting fires (or empires) because they had endless inspiration.
They built them because they learnt to work with the fire instead of expecting a bonfire every single day.

I think I’ve been trying to be a philosophical storyteller… constantly searching for the next profound insight to share.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped simply living my life and started looking for content in it and that took the joy out of it.

So if you’ve wondered why I’ve been a little quieter lately…
It’s because I’ve been learning the difference between chasing sparks and tending embers.

And maybe that’s what this season is asking of me.

Not to keep up with someone else’s pace, not to prove anything. Just to run my own race, at my own pace, for the joy of the journey—not for the finish line or the medal.

Because I have a feeling that’s where the real growth happens.

I just wanted to share an honest update of what’s been happening for me personally lately.

Much love, Steph x

The person you’re becoming isn’t separate from who you are now..

I don’t think we realise how easy it is to start moving away from ourselves in the name of growth.
Not because there’s anything wrong with wanting to grow, or wanting more for ourselves, or imagining something bigger and brighter than what we’re currently living.

That part matters too.

But somewhere in that process, it can become easy to start relating to ourselves as if who we are right now is something we’re simply passing through on the way to someone else.

As if the version of us we’re becoming exists somewhere separate from the one we’re living as.

And without meaning to, we can start living in reference to that future self, instead of actually being in relationship with the one we’re here as.

But real growth doesn’t require us to leave ourselves behind in order to get there.

It happens through us — not away from us.

Through healing what’s here.
Through understanding what’s already lived in us.
Through staying with ourselves long enough that the future version we once imagined becomes something we’ve actually grown into, rather than something we escaped toward.

And maybe that’s the part that gets missed.

That the person we’re becoming isn’t separate from who we are now.

They’re what happens when we stop abandoning ourselves on the way forward.

Some distances are physical. Others are personal.

This October I’m running 50km in the — a 36-hour event with 200 runners collectively covering over 10,000km.

Last year I signed up for a half marathon and ended up pushing through 30km. This year I’m going further again — 50km, my longest distance yet.

I’m running for — a registered Australian charity that creates assistive prosthetic devices for people with upper limb differences, provided at no cost to recipients.

And for a little girl named Gracie, whose story is at the heart of this work.

Every step has meaning.
Every step is for Gracie.

We’d love your support — every donation counts.

Sometimes you don’t realise you’ve been walking the same path until something in you quietly says,

“Hang on… this feels familiar.”

We walk the same path, meet different people, face different circumstances, and yet somehow find ourselves asking the same question..

“Why does this keep happening?”

After a while, something in me quietly said,
“I think I’m done with this now.”
Not with the journey.
Just with walking this same stretch of it.

Once I started recognising the pattern, I thought I had to start all over again.

Go back to the beginning.
Do it the right way this time.
But maybe I didn’t..

Then one day, the storm came rolling in.

At the time, it felt like everything was falling apart.
I couldn’t see more than a few steps ahead.

What I didn’t realise was that the storm wasn’t blocking my way.

It was clearing it..

When it passed, the shrubs that had hidden another way forward had been pushed aside.

The way hadn’t just appeared.
It had always been there.
I just couldn’t see it before.

Maybe growth isn’t about starting over.

Maybe it’s about walking the path you’re already on with enough awareness that, when another way forward reveals itself, you recognise it.

Maybe the path doesn’t change.
Maybe your awareness does.

And sometimes that’s all it takes to notice the way that was there all along.

I’ve noticed how quickly the mind can turn life into a problem that needs to be solved.

A decision that isn’t ready yet suddenly feels urgent.
A future that isn’t here yet feels like it needs to be planned for immediately.

And then the mind is already in it.
Treating it like something that needs attention right now.
Running ahead, trying to solve something that isn’t actually happening yet.

What’s interesting is how much of this is really about time..

The mind pulls the future into the present and we feel it as anxiety — because it hasn’t happened yet, and we don’t know if it will or what it will be.

It pulls the past into the present and we feel it as grief — not just because something bad happened, but sometimes because something beautiful did, and it can’t be returned to in the same way.

But neither of them are actually happening here.

They only exist as thoughts.

The mind creates urgency where there is none, in an attempt to feel safe.
And it removes presence in the process.

It pulls us out of the only place that life is actually happening — here.

And sometimes it takes noticing that… to come back to what’s actually here.

Not a problem. Just the present.

One of the most challenging parts of personal growth is the gap between internal change and external results.

You can be clearer, healthier, more self-aware, and showing up differently long before your circumstances reflect it.

That doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
It doesn’t mean you’re behind.
And it doesn’t mean the work isn’t working.

Sometimes you’re simply in the space between who you’ve been and what you’re building.

Have you ever experienced a period where you’d changed, but your life hadn’t caught up yet?

For over a month, I’ve been telling myself the same story..

“You’ve got a lot going on.”
“You need to rest.”
“You’ll get back to it soon.”

And for a while, that was true.

But lately, I’ve had to be radically honest with myself.

The thing that was once self-compassion had quietly become permission to stay stuck.

Not because I was lazy.
Not because I don’t care.

Because sometimes the stories that protect us can become the stories that hold us back.

Today I went for a 5km run.

Nothing dramatic happened.
I didn’t suddenly become a different person.

But I remembered something important..

The next version of me isn’t calling me forward through shame, guilt, or punishment.

She’s calling me forward through self-respect.
Through keeping promises to myself.
Through choosing the things that support my health, my energy, and the life I’m trying to build.

Sometimes growth isn’t about pushing harder.

It’s about being honest enough to admit when it’s time to stop hiding behind the story and start taking the next step.

Not against yourself.

For yourself.

You don’t need a harder push. Just an honest one 🤍

Overwhelm is often misunderstood.

We tend to look at the moment we snap, shut down, cry, withdraw, or react and ask..
“Why did that small thing affect me so much?”

But it was rarely just that moment.

The word overwhelm has roots connected to a boat being overturned.

And a boat doesn’t capsize because of a single wave.

It happens when what it’s carrying, combined with the conditions around it, becomes too much for it to hold.

We’re not so different.

The breaking point is often not the beginning of the problem.
It’s the moment the weight we’ve been carrying becomes visible.

The invitation isn’t always to become stronger or learn to hold more.

Sometimes it’s to notice what we’ve been carrying for too long, what needs to be released, and what needs to be shared.

So before you judge the wave, get curious about the ocean..

The other night I noticed myself feeling… flat.

Not sad. Not anxious. Not overwhelmed.

Just flat.

And my first thought was, “What the heck is going on?”
Because truthfully, there was no obvious reason for it.

Life has been full lately. I’ve been pouring into my work, studying, creating, showing up for my family… and I actually feel really excited about where things are heading.

But I started to notice the smaller things.

My patience had been shorter. The noise around me felt louder. And instead of holding space for it, I could feel myself trying to push through it… and sometimes even becoming part of the chaos.

Then wait a minute..
I checked my cycle, Day 29. Ohhhhhh makes sense
And later that night… “Oops… you caught us red-handed” 🤭🩸

But it made me think about something bigger.
How often do we feel “off” and immediately ask..

“What do I need to fix?”

A distraction. A solution. A way to push through.

When sometimes the more powerful question is simply..
“What is my body trying to tell me?”

Because our bodies are always communicating with us.
And the more we learn to listen, the more we realise not every low or heavy feeling means something is wrong.

Sometimes it’s just information.
Sometimes it’s just signals.
Sometimes it’s just our body asking us to slow down and pay attention.

And so I’m curious…

What has your body been trying to tell you lately? Have you been paying attention or is it time for check in?
