Sometimes just getting to your Yoga class can be tough!

The morning I took this video I woke up and could barely move and genuinely thought there was no way I was going to be able to teach my class.

I did a LOT of warming up before I got anywhere near this, there was a fair amount of small shapes lying on my back, it didn’t seem to be helping, so I moved from that to praying to whoever might listen, a few tears were shed….and eventually after a lot more cat cow and child’s pose I started moving into downward dog, bending deeply into the legs and coming down into these low lunges. After quite a few rounds everything started to change. I taught my class, and by the afternoon I felt fantastic.

This is some of the work I’ve been playing this month, and if you’ve been in my classes this week you might recognise bits and pieces of it.

It absolutely doesn’t have to look like this though. You could be on all fours, lift a leg and come into a supported low lunge, or come into downward dog and then release into child’s pose. Just listening to what your body needs.

So many times I’ve thought I couldn’t move in a class and been incredibly grateful that I just showed up and started. And if you come to my class and need to spend half of it (or all of it) lying on the floor, that’s completely fine too I’ve done that many, many times myself.

Sometimes just getting to your mat is enough.

I hope to see you on the mat soon-however that looks!

Lots of Love
Lucy💛

Sitting to standing

Squat to Standing

Laying down to standing

When was the last time you can remember standing up with ease from the floor?

If you watch little children they just seem to be able spring up out of nowhere into standing often with a little star jump 🌟

And we can do this too- but we need to continue to practice the movement, strength, mobility and balance that it takes to be able to do this.

Simple practices such as these are just the key to moving with ease. And gosh it makes you feel great too!

Moving like this with intention behind the scenes means that in your everyday life you can move automatically, adjusting the body to where it needs to be in space, avoiding injury and preventing falls.

If you’d like to give these a go, let me know who it goes!
Or join me for a Strength and Balance class Yoga Māyā Kalamunda on Fridays at 9am!

Hope to see you on the mat soon!

laghunyāsah
From the Taittirīya-Brāhmaṇa — Kāṭhaka

Two beautiful mantras exploring the connection between the world around us and the world within us — the Sun in the eyes and the heart, and the Moon in the mind and the heart. ☀️🌙

What is out there is also in here.
Nothing separate.

If you’d like to learn and experience these ancient chants with me, I offer private lessons and group gatherings in the Perth Hills, Darlington.
Message me for more information.

Sacred Song • Ancient Sanskrit & Vedic Chant 🌙

This Thursday I’ll be at the beautiful Sanctuary Yoga in Darlington, sharing Laghunyāsaḥ✨

Laghunyāsaḥ comes from the Taittirīya tradition of the Yajurveda, and I love this chant because it reminds us that nothing exists separately. The elements, the body, the breath, the natural world, the cosmos — everything is connected.

With the auspicious New Moon we’ll also explore a simple samantraka practice, bringing mantra and breath together, with Soma — the light of the Moon. 🌙

Chanting is a wonderful practice of meditation. We listen, breathe, repeat, and allow the mind to become quiet and absorbed in the sound.

You don’t need to know Sanskrit or have any experience with Vedic chant as I will share the sounds as well as the deeper meanings and philosophy behind the mantras as we go.

I can’t wait to welcome you!

This month in my classes I am basing our movements around…
Eka Pada Utkanasana.

Think pistols squats!

Ohhhh it’s a pose I really struggle with, but I have some fabulously fun ways to prepare and I personally think it’s the journey that is the most important and wonderful part!

Maybe you can give this a try next time you’re on your mat.. If you can’t seem to bend your leg like this, that’s ok, some people’s legs compress well before this posture, if that is you, I suggest trying this exercise by bending one leg normally and raising the other up and down, you can even bend the moving leg to make it more accessible.

I hope this inspires you and you enjoy giving it a go!

See you on the mat soon!

Lots of love

✨ AUGUST IS COMING… and we’re getting strong! ✨

This month I’m bringing something into my classes at Yoga Māyā Kalamunda that I’ve always struggled with — and because of that, have never really taught…

Eka Pāda Utkatāsana — Pistol Pose!

This Asana is such a brilliant whole-body challenge — building strength through the quads, glutes and core, while asking for plenty of balance, ankle and hip mobility, coordination and control. It’s also a fantastic way to explore unilateral strength — noticing what happens when one side has to do all the work! If you’ve been to my classes before, you’ll know I love a challenge, but I also love to laugh at myself when I stumble- This Asana is something I’ve always struggled with myself, so rather than avoiding it, I thought… it’s time. Let’s get stronger and work on it together!

Starting Friday 31 July, 9am at Yoga Maya, Strength & Balance will explore the foundations — balance, mobility, core strength and plenty of playful prep.

Sunday Vinyasa we’ll flow through lengthening and strengthening postures, building that lovely unilateral strength one leg at a time.

And if your body is asking for a little pratikriyā after all that work, Nourish Yin & Sound will be all about fascial release through the glutes and hip flexors. Ahhhhh. 😌

No need to already be able to do it. I certainly can’t 😂 That’s the whole point.

I’ll also be sharing little exercises here throughout August for you to play with at home.

Let’s see where we are by the end of the month! ✨

My favourite day of the fortnight coming up tomorrow Thursday 30th July.
Teaching this wonderful group of people the ancient and timeless Sanskrit mantras that have been handed down through voice for thousands of years. It is difficult to near impossible to learn these mantras through books or online courses, there is something special that is handed down through voice from teacher to student that can not be replaced. I feel it is so beautiful that in our fast paced world, that this can not be rushed or moved online🙏

I love seeing the recognition in the faces of of those learning these divine mantras. Power, Love and Peace - oh what a privilege it is 💛🙏

SACRED SONG, DARLINGTON
Thursday 30 July
4.15–5.30pm
1150 Victor Road, Darlington
In the beautiful Perth Hills

Come and learn ancient Sanskrit mantras, sacred song and their meanings in a warm, welcoming space — no singing experience needed.

This week we’ll be exploring the beautiful Buddhist Heart Sutra and its famous mantra — a teaching on releasing our grip on the things we carry, the stories we become tangled in, and the idea that we need to have everything figured out.

For those of us who spend so much of our lives holding everything together — caring, organising, thinking, planning, worrying, giving — the Heart Sutra offers something quite radical:

What if, for a little while, you could put it all down?

We’ll learn about the Heart Sutra and its meaning, explore its mantra together through voice and repetition, and experience the quiet that can emerge when we sing in community.

Come exactly as you are.
Bring your voice, your curiosity and yourself.

Lots of love

Lucy💛
