Surefire Miss

The youngster returns to the track tomorrow in race 5 at Northam. Her work has been super and her trainers could not be happier. She finds herself in a similar field to last race and this time over a more favourable distance. Arguably with better racing manners, she could have already broken her maiden but in start three she goes around a $10 chance and over a distance much better suited to her racing style. Regular jockey Jade McNaught remains on board and with just 53.5kg on her back, I'm quietly confident. Northam was the track that En Plein Air won heraiden race, can this filly replicate that feat?

En Plein Air

Speaking of our war horse, she has returned from her sprint adventures in great condition and ready to tackle her favourite distance of 1200m. The result was disappointing until you look at it compared to the other results of the day and the way she ran on post race. She's back to looking for further and in ripping fitness and conditioning. Her next target will either at Belmont either next Wednesday or the following Saturday.

Desert Whisper

Our sprint sensation is settling in well to her new Victorian home. She lost a bit of weight on the trip over, so she is working to get that and some conditioning back, and will look to start back in work next month. Not long until she is unleashed on the Vics and hopefully we see the best of her this spring campaign.

En Plein Air

Not much to say about that. Terrible performance unfortunately. Jockey reported that she felt a little uneasy on the soft ground (which hasn't bothered her before) but she didn't really pick up any temp until the end and was doing her best work after the line.

Think that sprint experiment is done and dusted. Back to 1200m+ for her!

En Plein Air

The TBR warhorse returns to racing today in the first race at Belmont. And it's back to her roots, racing a 1000m sprint around the bend. Whilst on paper the race might be a couple hundred metres short of her best distance, she does have form in this class and her maiden win was also over 1000m in what was a very fast time. Even though that was a few years ago, she does look like she could be turning the clock back today.

The field is small, the barrier is great and the speed should be in our favour. At $20 to win and about $3.80 to place, she is way over the odds. She will drop back from the beginning and stalk the leaders, but as long as she can get her motor running on time, I firmly believe she will be coming home quickly and be right there in the finish.

Super keen on her chances today. Good luck us!

Surefire Miss

Another frustrating race today where our little miss showed glimpses of improvement without getting the results. She started well and mostly held her own. Though she still has thing or two learn about racing manners and working through a field, her turn of foot in the final stages once again was eye catching. Once she puts it all together, and probably over further, there is definitely more than a win or two in the bank.

Time will tell but she seems kind of special.

Surefire Miss

Our now three year old filly lines up for her second go at the races tomorrow. This time she features in race 3 in Pinjarra and currently sits at third favourite after two important scratchings this afternoon. She has recovered well from her debut and even though she goes up in weights in this class, she has her regular track rider Jade riding this time and should settle much better from the inside barrier. A strong top 3 contender, I have a good feeling about her chances and will be making space a new photo frame on the wall of champions soon....

Well the debut didn't quiet go to plan. There is no doubt our girl can run, but her racing manners left a lot to be desired. She wanted to go every which way throughout the race but once she ran in a straight line, she was chewing up the yards in the end. I thought overall that her run was quiet good considering her manners and the way she was coming home, another 100m and who knows.

Once she finds her way, I feel there is plenty in store for this very soon to be 3 year old!

Surefire Miss

It has been a crazy couple of weeks in the life of this intrepid owner, so only a brief update. But finally, after nearly a year of waiting, our girl Surefire Miss is making her public race debut.

After four encouraging trials, the time has finally come to see what she can do under race-day pressure. Fittingly, she lines up on the final meeting of the WA racing season—a unique way to kick off what we hope will be a long and successful career.

She hasn't been handed the easiest assignment, drawing an awkward barrier, but we're thrilled to have talented apprentice Holly Nottle in the saddle. The plan will be simple: settle comfortably in the early stages, find some clear running when it matters, and let her show the powerful turn of foot she's displayed throughout her preparation.

As always with a debutant, there are plenty of unknowns, but we couldn't be happier with how she's come to the races. She's continued to improve with every trial and has given us plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

We believe she's a genuine top-four chance, and with a touch of luck from the draw, we'd love to see her charging home late and announcing herself in style.

En Plein Air

Not the race for our girl today. Jockey reported that jumped and ran well early but then tried to pull too hard early on, which is unusual for En Plein Air. And by the time the heat was on, she didn't have it in the tank to stick with them.

We shall wait to see how she pulls up and find out what is next!

En Plein Air

Our warhorse returns to the city tracks today in the last at Belmont. She showed a blistering finish in her last run at Bunbury and is in near career best itness. Today though, she steps up several levels to take on the field in a 1200m dash in soft track conditions. Drawn wide and with her regular jockey jumping onto the favourite, some might think this is a foregone conclusion.

However, En Plein Air has a 50% winning strike rate second up over 1200m. She has also placed in 5/6 soft track efforts, with a 33% winning strike rate to boot. She also has Tash Faithfull jumping on board who is arguably in as good as form, or better, than Lucy at the moment.

So at $41 I would say our girl is over the odds.

Are we among the best horses in the race? Probably not. But the best don't always win.

Look for her to jump midfield and hopefully establish a position 3-4 lengths back heading into the straight. If she finds herself in that position without too much trouble, with a little luck on our side, anything could happen on the line.

Desert Whisper

Not the way we wanted to go out. Jockey reported she wasn't a happy horse out on course today. Didn't have her head in the game. She worked hard to reach the front but by the time they came knocking, she didn't have it to hold them out.

In my eyes, it was actually a better run than her last effort despite the poor finish.

But Desert owes us all nothing. She has been a champion over here and now it's time to head east. New venues, new tracks and new trainers. Just the fresh start she needs and hopefully we will see her first past the finish post once again and soon.
