My cloth fairy is a newly created shop based in Melbourne, Australia. We create and sell washable cloth pads with great quality. Our goal is to offer a colourful and happier perspective of menstruation, helping girls and women reconnect with their bodies. When we were thinking about choosing a name for our brand all ideas that came in mind were related to reduce the imprint, women nature, feminine
and to bring joy to this days. What could be more feminine and delicate than a fairy, right? And thinking about how important is to connect to ourselves and to respect our bodies especially during menstruation that is a time to rest and renewal; we thought that the best representation of the menstrual cycle would be a dandelion. We love all the changes of it, starting with the beautiful bright yellow, turning into white seeds that spread with a gentle breeze bringing peace and joy for those who take a time to watch it. Milia is Brazilian, living in Melbourne since 2015 with her husband. She is a registered nurse currently working as a Doula, supporting women during their pregnancy, childbirth and post partum. She also explores her creativity making new patterns for soft toys, giving sewing classes and creating Birthing dolls (dolls that gives birth and breastfeed). She started making cloth pads because she was having huge allergies with disposable pads and she didn’t feel comfortable with menstrual cups, so she started researching the best materials and how to make her own cloth pads, and after the first month using them, she was amazed with the difference: no allergies, decreased her flow, fewer cramps, she felt more comfortable with the fabric touching her skin and she was truly happy to help the planet. She told some of her friends about the news and they also had interest of making the change. So she decided that this could be her path helping save the planet and helping other women to return to the ancient sacred practice of treating the woman’s body as a temple, and to celebrate their cycles. Ela começou a fazer absorventes de tecido porque estava tendo alergias com os absorventes descartáveis e também porque não se adaptou com os coletores menstruais, então ela começou a pesquisar sobre os melhores materiais e formas de fazer os absorventes naturais, após o primeiro mês com os absorventes de tecido, ficou surpresa com a diferença: não teve mais alergias, diminuiu seu fluxo, percebeu menos cólicas, sentiu-se mais confortável com o tecido tocando sua pele e além de tudo ela estava realmente feliz em ajudar o planeta. Ela contou a algumas de suas amigas sobre a notícia e elas também tiveram interesse em fazer a mudança. Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce myself to tell you a little more about me!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My name is Milia. I’m from Brazil and my husband and I moved to Australia in 2015. Back in Brazil I used to work as a Family and Community nurse ( Something in between Midwife and Maternal and Child nurse + community nurse, so we do prenatal consultations, breastfeeding support, kids and adult consultations, home visits and school education), in 2014 I decided that I wanted to go deeper on childbirth support so I did my DONA International Birth Doula and postnatal doula training and also a childbirth educator training, but because I was working full time was a bit hard to manage to do all together. So when we moved to Melbourne I could dedicate my time to work as a Doula and I couldn’t be more satisfied. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I started searching for tools to work with children to teach them about childbirth, but I couldn’t find what I wanted, so I decided to use my doula/nursing knowledge and my sewing skills to create a doll that has the characteristics of a pregnant woman, could be pregnant, give birth and breastfeed, and I was so thrilled with the result that I decided to share them on a Birth worker Facebook group to see if I could get a feedback if I was the only one willing to have one and if it was worthy to invest my time, as you can imagine it takes many days to finish just one. I got 4 orders in a couple of hours later. Can you imagine how excited I was? I would like to think my work now has blossomed into a beautiful butterfly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another thing that I learned in this journey in Australia is to be more eco-conscious, and I started to make reusable menstrual pads for myself and I loved it. Since 2017 I also make and sell cloth pads⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some fun facts about me: I am fan. I love chocolate. I have one sister, she’s also into the parenting world, she is a psychologist and gives workshops on Attachment Parenting in Brazil. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Red Tent Ritual.
In many cultures women and girls are being honoured during their moon cycle. Himba society celebrates and empowers girls during this time, which is considered according to their tradition as a sacred period. Himba women live in a community which celebrate young women's first moon cycle, a five day celebration is prepared with the participation of all the women and girls. The rituals which took part every day and into the nights included dancing, singing and storytelling. I could hear them singing long after I left to sleep in my tent… These rituals were designed to prepare the young woman for womanhood and to guide her spiritually.
