This is me, Amy Jane. Feeling so incredibly full and in love with the beautiful community that came out on the darkest night to mark the Solstice.
Once upon a time (2024) I gave up facilitating yoga, I was only going back if Jill Haapaniemi opened up a space. I felt I had nothing worthy to share and that it didn’t matter that I wasn’t on the mat at the front anymore. In 2025 she did and I was back. Teaching is a beautiful creative practice, I love watching people move into the space and drop into a practice. I love reading peoples energies and curating a practice purely on the how people land on the mat (sorry folks, I rarely plan and if I do it’s because I tune into my body and what I need which as we all co-regulate as a community it’s often what others need too.)
Yoga has been a big part of my life for a long time, I remember attending classes in primary school with my parents in town halls and peoples lounge rooms. Yoga is a practice that you don’t only practice on the mat but it’s little snippets that are taken out into your everyday life - a few deep breaths, sighs, intuitive stretches while sitting at the desk or getting out of the car after a long drive. It’s about finding the glimmers in the everyday.
Reflecting now, on the darkest night, I am letting go of the old story of what I share on the mat is not worthy. I am planting seeds for a new season of continuing to show up here at BUTTER STUDIO and creating a practice of movement and stillness and know that I am a loved part of this community and that I am worthy of being on that mat at the front.
