46% increase in revenue in her second year of business as a result of business mentoring. But it wasn’t smooth sailing and one of the biggest challenges for her was looking at the numbers.
Because, sometimes it just feels better if you don’t. Especially if you’re new to business. You know you’re not seeing clients yet so there’s really no point tracking KPIs because there’s nothing to track, right? Wrong.
For the women I work with, it’s not uncommon to lead from the heart. It’s also not uncommon when you’re new in business to make the numbers (or apparent lack of them) mean something about you, your worth or value, about your lack of progress and more. So I get it. It’s easier to just not look.
But…when you learn about the numbers, you see that they tell a story and you’re not the leading lady (sorry). They provide you with the direction you’ve been looking for. They help you by removing the guesswork and all the bright shiny object syndrome that can come with it. Now it’s no longer about you and it’s all about the next step. It’s very empowering.
It was the same for this lovely client. Once she learned about them, her business took off and over time, her questions went from, ‘what do you think I should do?’ to ‘what else should I be tracking?’ and ‘why wasn’t this covered in my course??’
To get started, begin with a few essentials. For therapists, this might be tracking inquiries, bookings, cancellations. If you don’t have clients yet, track your marketing. What marketing are you doing? How often? On what platforms? What posts performed best last month? How many included a call to action? How many downloads were there? How many opt-ins? Things like that. Even just starting with a few is a great first step and you’ll be able to add more over time.
It was equal parts tracking, courage and chocolate that provided this client with the direction she’d been missing and look at the result. I mean, what would increasing your income by 46% in one year mean for you? For your family? For your clients?
I’m offering brief and extended consultations where we can look at your business, goals and challenges and map out a plan for your next steps. Links are in the first comment.

Lovely Community,
I'll be highlighting practitioners from time-to-time to support, celebrate and of course share information with you. This is just something I'm doing because I want to - no one is paying etc.
So, with that said, I want to introduce to you Ally from Ally Smith Consulting. Ally is just a beautiful human. What drew me to her most in the beginning was her passion for really embodying what she believed to be so important which is working from your values. She really does it. I've seen her give a little extra time to supervisees, share resources freely, and she's often doing more of her own PD because she loves learning (and a good book! She has a book club!) Her work is more focussed on supervision these days and she's affectionately spoken of as the supervisor's supervisor.
I don't know if you've had a chance to see it yet or not, but you can download a complimentary workbook from her website (I'll put the details in the first comment below for you) that helps you identify your strengths as a supervisor, so you'll want to definitely grab that. And she also has some training coming up in September for Social Workers - it's called The Art of Being a Social Work Supervisor and it's online, over days (22nd and 23rd Sep) and includes 15CPD points which is always a bonus. I'll pop the link below for more info on that too for anyone who's interested.
I've tagged Ally in this post and she didn't know I'd be sharing this today either 🙂 Feel free to reach out to her with any questions or just to say hello. It's always so lovely to network and build connections - you just never know where they might lead.

Oracle cards have been such a helpful tool to use at different times of my business journey, mostly because they help unlock new insights and give me pause for contemplation and reflection. There's something about an image that helps me to be able to see things from a different perspective or even, be creative with my thinking. If you like card decks too, I made a tool you can use to create your own. It's in the Hub waiting for you.
PS: You don't need paid tools to make them either

Okay, back to manifesting outcomes. Here's something you might find helpful.
If you're working away and still stuck at the starting line, it's completely normal to think you haven't found the right strategy and go on the hunt for a new one. But another strategy might not be what you need and it’s absolutely possible that you don’t need to do more in order to get the result you’re wanting in the business. I’ve seen women in business outwardly state that for example, marketing is important for the progress of their business and yet at the same time experience a learned threat response to self-promotion ie anticipating judgement, being seen as ‘too much’, fearing rejection. This then results in behaviours like avoiding marketing altogether, delaying posting, over-editing content, not making offers to her audience and or watering down her messaging. The conscious belief that marketing is important and her automatic association that ‘visibility is unsafe’, can pull her in different directions. And it’s why asking for more strategies or more plans usually doesn’t solve the problem.
I'll pop my link in the comments below if you'd like to read more about what happens when you manifest from a psychological perspective.
