The RTBU has continued to advocate and campaign for stronger legislative protections for transport workers who face violence and intimidation on the job.

Today, new Victorian Premier Ben Carroll introduced legislation to establish a tough new Workplace Protection Order (WPO) scheme to deliver these protections.

The new laws will give courts the power to ban or limit people’s access to workplaces when they treat transport workers unacceptably.

Offenders who breach WPOs will face serious consequences of up to two years in prison or a fine of up to $50,000.

The RTBU welcomes these new laws to help keep our members safe at work ✊

Tim is excited to see members around the traps! 💪👊

Congratulations to RTBU Life Member Keith Coffey on his Order of Australia Medal.

Keith was awarded with an Order of Australia Medal for his extensive service contributions to the Darebin community.

Keith worked in the railways for 48 years and was known as a ‘troublemaker’ for being a constant thorn in management’s side.

In addition to his substantial contributions to the Union movement, Keith has a life-long history of community service, including his ongoing work for Darebin Men’s Shed.

The Order of Australia Medal recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service to their community, and we can’t think of a more deserving recipient than Keith.

Congratulations to Keith on this well-deserved achievement.
