I don’t buy much from the supermarket these days but these are 5 things I buy every week 👊🏻
The supermarket is 95% ultra processed food and even the fresh section is sprayed with chemicals.
Emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives, additives, flavours and colours all impact your gut microbiome and in turn your brain. Disruption of your gut microbiome means a compromised immune system (wonder why your kids alway get sick) as well as opening up the increases the risk of chronic disease and cancers - especially bowel cancer.
Flavours and colours especially have been linked to behaviour changes in children, increasing hyperactivity and ADHD type symptoms as well as interruption in sleep, concentration, irritability and emotional regulation.
While these additives have to be GRAS (generally regarded as safe) in the serving on the packet - most people - especially kids are having multiple ultra processed foods a day meaning their safe levels are exceeded very quickly over the course of a day.
If you are serious about living a long and healthy life - free from disease and mental health issues - removing as many ultra processed foods from your diet is key.
Turn the packet over. Check what’s in the food your eating. and if you don’t recognise an ingredient you could use in your kitchen -best to find an alternative. Remember - one day at a time - you don’t have to change everything at once.
80-90% whole foods is the way to go!
