๐Ÿ YES, WE WILL BE THERE! ๐Ÿ
Backyard Bogan Mower Racing Team is heading to the York Agricultural Showโ€”and weโ€™ll be bringing the mowers, the noise and hopefully enough spare parts to make it through the day! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ”ง
๐Ÿ“… Saturday, 5 September 2026
โฐ Racing starts at 9:30 am
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Fatherโ€™s Day weekend
If you donโ€™t have plans, you do now! Bring the kids, bring your dad, bring Grandad and come along for a fantastic family day out. There will be plenty to see and do, along with some exciting mower racing that may leave you wondering why anyone ever thought ride-on mowers were only meant for cutting grass!
Watch us race around the track, kick up plenty of dirt and find out whether the mowersโ€”and their driversโ€”can stay in one piece until the finish line. We canโ€™t promise everything will go according to plan, but we can promise plenty of entertainment!
Pack the family into the car, head to the York Agricultural Show and help us make some noise this Fatherโ€™s Day weekend.
Follow Backyard Bogan Mower Racing Team on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for all the latest racing updates, photos and behind-the-scenes mower madness.
Weโ€™ll see you trackside!

early, hitting the road at 5:00 am with the wife and 3 kids and and The trip went smoothly โ€” apart from unfortunately collecting a bird along the way, but thatโ€™s sometimes part of being on the road!

wanna think out Big crew/transport Bill Jesse and Mandy for telling them I was down?

Once we arrived, it was time to get down to business. ๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ

Jesse had a fantastic day, racing between Standard Modified and C Class and putting in some great laps throughout the day. He finished with an awesome 2nd overall in C Class โ€” a brilliant result! ๐Ÿฅˆ

As for myself and Lightning McQueen #95, the first two heats were absolutely flying! โšก๐ŸŽ๏ธ We found a lot more speed, the mower felt great, and Iโ€™m really excited about where we can go from here.

Then came Heat 3โ€ฆ and things got a little interesting. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Unfortunately, Lightning decided four wheels on the ground were overrated! We had a rollover, and I went Superman-style over the bonnet. ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ Thankfully, I was okay, but Lightning needed some serious panel beating before we could get back out there.

It became a massive team effort to straighten everything up and get us ready for Heats 4 and 5. As if the rollover wasnโ€™t enough, we also managed to lose the exhaust pipe! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ”ง

But we got it done, got Lightning back on track, and somehow finished the day with 1st overall in the Standard Modified class! ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ

A massive thank you to Bill, our pit crew and transporter, for everything he did today. There was plenty of work involved in getting Lightning back together, and without the help in the pits, we wouldn't have made it back onto the track.

Thank you also to my wife and kids for continuing to support this crazy hobby and allowing me to do what I love. โค๏ธ

A big thank you to Mandy for supporting our racing adventures, and to Bazz for travelling along with us and doing his own thing with his race team. It might not have a name yetโ€ฆ but who cares? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ

Another huge thank you to all the other competitors and teams who jumped in and helped us throughout the day. Thatโ€™s what makes this sport so great โ€” when something goes wrong, everyone gets in and lends a hand.

And, of course, none of this would be possible without our amazing sponsors:

๐Ÿ Cellar Door & Studios โ€” thank you for your ongoing support of our team.

๐Ÿ West Coast Roofs โ€” a massive thank you for allowing us to use the trailer to transport our mowers and equipment.

๐Ÿ Freedom Choice Disability Services โ€” thank you for continuing to support what we do.

๐Ÿ Peel Mowers & Chainsaws Mandurah โ€” thank you for all the work, advice and support keeping our machines going. And by the wayโ€ฆ Lightning McQueen is absolutely off his rails now! โšก๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ Action Trophies Mandurah โ€” thank you for your continued support with medals, trophies and merchandise.

It was a massive day, a few bent panels, one missing exhaust, a Superman impersonation and plenty of laughs โ€” but we came home with some great results! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ†

Brad & Lightning McQueen #95 โ€” 1st Overall, Standard Modified ๐Ÿฅ‡
Jesse โ€” 2nd Overall, C Class ๐Ÿฅˆ

Thanks again to everyone who helped, supported and raced alongside us today.

Next stopโ€ฆ Pinjarra! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ WAMRA TURNS 10! ๐Ÿ
With so many new followers joining us, we realised there are plenty of people who know us for the racingโ€ฆ but not the story of how it all began.
So, to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we thought weโ€™d take you on a little trip down memory lane and share the history of WAMRA.

๐Ÿ WAMRA 10 Year Anniversary ๐Ÿ

(Written with the input from past and present members)

Founding Years

In 2016, the Boddington Rural Expo planned to hold what was believed to be the first mower race in Western Australia. (It turns out it wasnโ€™t quite the first, as mower racing had apparently been held at the Royal Show around 10 years earlier.)

The Expo organisers contacted AROLMRA for assistance with setting up the event and sourcing five race mowers for local participants. Then-President Di and Carilynn from AROLMRA flew over to help run the event and provide commentary.

Following the success of the event, Boddington Ride On Racing Mowers (BRRM) was formed shortly afterwards.

Bradley Hewton served as the clubโ€™s founding President from 2016 to 2019.

Our first track was at the Boddington Rodeo Arena. After two or three follow-up events, we were politely asked to race elsewhere after the mowers made a little too much of a mess of the arena surface.

From there, a local farmer established a track in one of his paddocks, and we began receiving invitations to race at events including Narrogin Revheads, the Wagin Burnouts and other community events.

As interest grew and opportunities expanded, the club naturally evolved beyond its original roots.

Expansion

Around 2018, the club rebranded to the Western Australian Mower Racing Association (WAMRA) as it expanded and began racing at agricultural shows and events across the state.

It was a busy time for the club. WAMRA also began racing at Beverley alongside WATPA and continued to grow its presence throughout regional Western Australia.

With a stronger identity and increasing participation, the club soon looked beyond state borders for new challenges.

Interstate Growth

2018 also marked WAMRAโ€™s first interstate event, when James, Quade and Jarad attended the inaugural Mowers at Meningie hosted by SALMRA in South Australia. WAMRA played a major role in helping establish South Australiaโ€™s first mower racing club.

In April 2019, WAMRA hosted the WesternNats at Beverley. South Australia brought over a truckload of mowers, beginning a friendly WA versus SA rivalry. A perpetual trophy was introduced, with the event alternating between the two states and the trophy contested each time.

However, just as interstate competition was gaining momentum, global events brought unexpected challenges.

Pandemic Impact

Unfortunately, the pandemic disrupted those plans and the interstate challenge never fully regained its momentum.

Quade Kempton served as President in 2020.

That same year, WAMRA began racing at what is now the clubโ€™s home. After being contacted by Max Pinjarra to run several events, WAMRA raced there for the first time. It quickly became a staple venue alongside regular Beverley race meetings over the following years.

The club also continued attending annual events including Wandering, the Chudacud Cup, Kellerberrin and many other regional shows and motorsport events throughout the season.

Joost DeCaluwe served as President from 2021 to 2023, helping guide the club through the post-pandemic years and a period of continued growth.

As stability returned, the club was able to refocus on innovation, development and planning for the future.

Recent Developments

Jordan Lynch served as President from 2024 to 2025.

During this time, WAMRA achieved one of the most significant milestones in its history by establishing its purpose-built home track at Pinjarra.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of members, volunteers and mates who donated countless hours of labour, machinery, clay and limestone, a simple grass paddock was transformed into a dedicated racing facility that WAMRA is proud to call home.

WAMRA also introduced the clubโ€™s first-ever night racing events. Racing under lights brought a whole new atmosphere to the sport and added another exciting chapter to the clubโ€™s history.

The Next Chapter

In 2026, Warren Barnett formed a new committee as WAMRA celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

The club entered its second decade with a strong focus on growth, sustainability, while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture where every member is valued and encouraged to contribute.

New initiatives included:

* Expanding race meetings to Bunbury Speedway.
* Continuing the development of WAMRAโ€™s home track at Pinjarra.
* Strengthening governance and community engagement.
* Fostering a positive, inclusive club culture where every member is valued, respected and encouraged to contribute ideas and have a voice.

During this time improvement and maintance to the Pinjarra track were made possible through the generous support of new sponsors PK Grader Hire, Makin Dust Plant Hire and Skyline Surface Solutions, while West Coast Roofs continued its valued support of the club.

WAMRA also became a registered low-risk food business, allowing the introduction of food services at race meetings and further enhancing the experience for members, volunteers and spectators.

Past Presidents

* Bradley Hewton (2016-2019)
* Quade Kempton (2020)
* Joost DeCaluwe (2021-2023)
* Jordan Lynch (2024-2025)
* Warren Barnett (2026-Present)

Looking Ahead

From humble beginnings in the Boddington Rodeo Arena to race meetings across Western Australia, interstate competition, national events and a purpose-built home track in Pinjarra, WAMRAโ€™s journey has been remarkable.

As WAMRA celebrates its first decade, we proudly honour everyone who has been part of the journey and look forward to the next chapter of growth, racing, friendship and community spirit.

๐Ÿ Hereโ€™s to the next 10 years of WAMRA! ๐Ÿ
