Established in 1933, we are the oldest club in Northern Tas. We run Track & Field and Cross-Country. Newstead Athletics Inc.
previously known as the Newstead Harrier Club (and still often referred to as this), is based in Launceston, and is northern Tasmania's longest running athletics club, having been established in 1933. It is also the second oldest in the state with Hobart's Sandy Bay club starting up 6 years earlier. The club conducts its own cross country programme between March and September in and around the Lau
nceston area, catering for all ages. There are three race distances to choose from each week and most are conducted on a handicap basis to give all the opportunity to win. Several sponsored feature races are held, offering prize money. Numerous trophies, medallions and lucky draw prizes can also be won throughout the season. The club also support Athletics Tasmania cross country and road titles. Cross country events are held on Saturday afternoons from 1pm. From October to March the club participates in the local track and field competition at the St Leonards track. Competition is held on Friday evenings from 6pm. Competition is conducted in grades according to performances except for championships which are conducted in age groups from Under 14 to Open. Coaching is available in all events and potential athletes of all ages, regardless of experience and ability, are welcome to come along to training or competition.
