It’s always fantastic to see our Edithvale members out in the wider bowls community, proudly representing our club and showcasing the high standard of bowling we’re known for. Yesterday’s Grand Final public holiday offered some major tournaments, and our players certainly made the most of it.
Heathmont hosted their Sinclair Shiel Invitational Pairs, where Heather Redpath and Shellie Kavanagh flew the flag for Edithvale. With morning tea, a two‑course lunch, and $4,000 in prize money on offer, it was set to be a terrific day — and both Heather and Shellie rose to the occasion.
They played exceptional bowls throughout the event, finishing equal first with Moonee Valley and only narrowly missing the top spot on a countback. A brilliant effort from both players.
Well done Heather and Shellie on an outstanding day of bowling and a great result for our club.
Our Edithvale presence didn’t stop there. Jackie Bramwell, Glenys Gionis and Colin Shiel represented the club at the Upwey‑Tecoma 2 Bowls Triples, a well‑supported event featuring 32 teams competing over five games of eight ends, with $4,000 in prize money on offer. Teams from across Melbourne participated, and players were treated to lunch, afternoon tea and raffles with more than 20 prizes given away.
Glenys (Lead), Colin (Second) and Jackie (Skip) delivered an incredible performance, winning four games and drawing one to secure first place. Their consistency across all five games saw them finish 23 shots up overall — edging out second place by just two shots. The competition was fierce, but our team held strong under pressure and showcased superb bowling from start to finish.
This event had a terrific atmosphere, was brilliantly run by the host club, and our Edithvale trio did us proud.
Another great day for Edithvale Bowling Club — congratulations to all involved.
