Over the last 5 months, Brisbane Intrepid Landcare has teamed up with Brisbane City Council Environment Centres to co-design and deliver an induction and training program for new Environment Centre volunteers.
Across sessions at the Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre and Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, volunteers built the confidence and skills to create meaningful connections with visitors using the Four Folds Practice: hosting self, being hosted, hosting others, and being part of a hosting community.
After exploring their centres, volunteers embarked on a nature walk to spark curiosity and discover new stories before diving into lively discussions and reflection. By the end of the session, each volunteer had crafted a personal story inspired by nature and their own experiences, ready to share with future visitors.
A huge thank you to Brisbane City Council Environment Centres for this opportunity to collaborate! Through this training, we’ve empowered volunteers to inspire connection, curiosity and appreciation for Brisbane’s natural places. 🌿

Registrations are now open for our Crows Nest Ecology Camp Out! 🥳 Spots are limited so get in quick. 🏃
For the nature lover, it doesn't get much better than this ecology camp out. We'll set up our base at the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Ranger Station at Crows Nest National Park for three awesome days. Carry out Brush Tail Rock Wallaby surveying, wrangle some w**ds to encourage natural regeneration, pop into town to explore, and have plenty of opportunities to explore the local area including walking, swimming, bird watching and spotlighting.
🔗 RSVP here: https://forms.gle/MQzoz8G2MLjSu4Db7
Registrations close Sunday, 30 August at 11:59PM. Shoot us a DM or email if you have any questions!
GOOD TO KNOW:
🦘Friday afternoon arrival is recommended to allow more time to set up camp and settle in around the campfire. We will meet around 8.30AM Saturday to kick off our activities, and time will be available in the afternoon to pitch tents for our Saturday arrivals. A full itinerary will be provided to confirmed participants.
🦘Carpooling is encouraged! We recommend bringing a friend along, but if you're flying solo, that doesn't mean you have to travel solo! A carpool register will be available to tee up travel buddies.
🦘 We will be closely monitoring fuel prices and potential for dangerous weather conditions in the lead up to the event. We will notify all participants if the event will be postponed or cancelled with as much notice as possible.

🦘 Wanna watch for wallabies? Wake early and take in the trees? Climb to the top and feel the breeze? Come along and have a geez.
We're absolutely stoked to be heading back to Crows Nest National Park in September to continue our efforts towards preserving the Brush Tail Rock Wallabies (Petrogale penicillata) in this stunning area. Over three days we'll camp out, do a bit of w**d wrangling to help native plants regenerate, spend a quiet morning surveying for Brushies, have free time for walks or swims, enjoy a group dinner out, and chat around the campfire.
If this sounds like it could be for you, follow along, mark your calendars, and we'll let you know when registrations are open!

Let's hit the trails, check out plants, funghi, animals and invertebrates, and have a cool and fun time! 🐨 This is not a speed test! I repeat, not. a. speed. test. We'll meander through the bush, take lots of close up pics for iNat, and undoubtedly learn more about our local flora and fauna in the process.
🫖 BONUS we'll pop in to the Cafe & Bar on Whites Hill after our walk to grab some food or a drink and keep chatting.
🗓 Sunday 26 July, 8AM.
🎒 Bring a water bottle, enclosed shoes and sun-safe clothing.
📍 Link to our meeting spot in the comments.

What do you get when you combine 12 superstar volunteers, a heap of native plants, plenty of mulch and a patch of empty green space?
The answer: an impressive planting effort of course! 💁♀️
On 14 March, in just 4 hours, our volunteers planted a whopping 620 native plants for our second community planting event at Enoggera Creek! 🌱⭐️
The morning consisted of digging holes, planting, spreading mulch and of course, plenty of socialising and laughs
Several plants from our February planting fell victim to some cheeky bush turkeys 😔
But this time we saw a massive improvement to the plant survival rate by firmly tamping in the soil during the planting.
Take that bush turkeys! 👊
We would love to see you at our next planting event - details as follows:
⏰ 8AM to 11AM - Saturday 11th April
📍 Top of Picot Street Park, Kelvin Grove
🎒 Water bottle, morning tea & sun safe clothing
☀️ No need to RSVP, just show up on the day!
