Changes in Event Format

To better focus on ASSA objectives the Over 60s championship will be our only "seniors" event for Queensland. When the other states get on board we may have a better chance to raise funding for an Australian Seniors Championship.

These changes were considered necessary to continue our support for "seniors" with the limited funding and resources currently available. It was also decided to bring back the FAM rule as defined by the rules adopted for all national events. All members present at our recent AGM and the following General Meeting were in favour of the changes to our Constitution and event format.

2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The 2026 AGM, held on Saturday 7th February, returned Peter Hanley as President, Bill Horner as Treasurer, Joy Flemming as Secretary and William Kent as the QLD State Delegate. No nominations were received for other states.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the Australian Senior Snooker Association Inc (ASSA) is scheduled for 9 am on Saturday 7th February at 51 North Deep Creek Road, North Deep Creek 4570. Members can attend via live stream when logged in at https://assa.asn.au/forum/

All executive positions will be vacated. Nominations are now open for President, Secretary, Treasurer and State Delegates. State delegates are responsible for managing senior events within their own state and have full voting rights as an ASSA board member.

There is a minimum age requirement of 50 years. The Secretary needs to be a Queensland resident, but other board members can reside anywhere in Australia.

ASSA's objective has been modified to elaborate on just what our "senior snooker" is about...

(a) to promote and organise snooker tournaments and championships for Senior Age players to provide the incentive to keep playing and practicing for a sport in which they may no longer be competitive with younger generations.

(b) that by providing the incentive to continue practice, that Senior Age players may maintain the health of mind and body that comes from the exercise and discipline.

We felt the need for the elaboration due to the confusion over the meaning of "senior snooker" when some are passing off events open to 40 year olds as a "senior" event.

No other sport in the world considers 40 to be anywhere near "senior age".

As for the WPBSA and ABSC now calling what used to be known as the "Masters" as "Senior Snooker", lets not forget that at 40, players are at their peak and are likely to remain in their top ranks for another decade. Those associations are most welcome to do whatever they need to sell tickets, but take a moment to consider what it will be like when those players try to compete in 20-30 years time.

We operate as an individual association, independent of all other bodies, to manage senior age snooker events because such events need to be properly managed by senior aged people.

We used Challonge a couple of times for round robins but prefer to keep our results inhouse so that records can be a permanent archived.

So we added round robins to our existing drawsheet solution. Catering for round robins was a challenge, but our new solution is actually easier to use than the alternatives, and it uses our own formula.
