We learnt this one last night to get ready for the summer 💪 🌞 yeowwww
I first tried this dance at a bal with Folqué? and didn't see it again until almost two years later at Bal-Curious Folk ! Big love to Rom who told me what it was called, and a great introductory video on YouTube by folks at Balfolk Auckland
Enjoy ! and see you next week ❤️

Come warm up this winter with balfolk!
If you're new here, bal-folk is a beautiful melange of dances from France, Bretagne and Europe. Ever been to a Scottish ceilidh? Or Irish ceili? You’re more than halfway there! You'll know more than you think 😌
Either way, we choose dances that feel good, are quick to learn and go with some absolute banger tunes 🎶 lines, big circles, paired and solo. All taught and called each night.
📅 every Thursday at 7.30pm
📍 Coracle Hall, Fairfield
🎟 tix are sliding scale, with free community tix available each week*
Bisous,
Stevie
*I'd love for you to be able to pay your rent AND go dancing, you know? 😘

And we're ending this term with a bang 🔥

🎉 Thursday May 28th - PARTY 🎉
It is *highly* recommended that you come to the classes in the next two weeks so that you can make the most of our end of term bal 🎶
⁉️ a "bal" is a dance social, usually with live music. Similar to an Irish or Scottish ceilidh, we dress up and enjoy a night of dancing. French bals usually don't have a caller or someone providing instructions - but Stevie will be there to give you some tips! 💗
After the bal, we'll be on break for a few weeks, returning mid-July
Bisous, and see you Thursday!

For all our new dancers - here's a brief overview of where balfolk comes from 🇫🇷🇪🇺
The audio for this post is a Breton dance called the hanterdro. As the story goes, it's a simple dance once used to flatten the floor in the days before mechanical compactors! The song is a kan ha diskan (call and response) - truly magic! ✨
Bisous,
