Today, July 1st, Malu Hunters stands together with our families, friends, and communities to acknowledge a profoundly significant day across Zenadh Kes (the Torres Strait)—the Coming of the Light. 🌅✨

​On this day in 1871, the London Missionary Society arrived on the shores of Erub (Darnley Island). It marks a pivotal moment in our history, representing a beautiful alignment of faith, peace, and ancestral traditions that helped unify our islands.

​As Malu Mabaigal (Men of the Sea) who rely deeply on traditional knowledge, culture, and the ocean, we recognize how this history shapes who we are today. The Coming of the Light is a powerful reminder of our resilience, our shared faith, and our unbreakable connection to our land and sea country. 🌊✊🏾
