Our reason behind our " Ride for a Cure" Jackpot.

2 Breast cancer diagnosis in 2 years....

My story.. and now also my Dads story.

After a routine mammogram in 2024 I was diagnosed with Breast cancer. I think I knew when I received a phone call from the hospital asking me to come in as soon as possible for some further testing it wasn't going to be good, but I talked my way around my anxiety " it'll be fine, they are just being careful, I'm sure it's nothing"
After a core biopsy we were sitting in the doctors office and I will never forget getting that news, I dont think it sunk in at all for a while, even with surgery being planned it just didn't seam real. It wasn't until one of my doctor's referred to me as a Cancer Patient it actually hit me and I remember freaking out a little in my car afterwards... literally just thinking wtf was happening! Surgery came and I was thankful it was over.. now the waiting game for more biopsy results which would give us a clearer picture of what we were dealing with. I remember my surgeon called me asking me to come in earlier then my arranged appointment ( my mind was racing.. was this good? Was this a bad sign?). I was told at this appointment that unfortunately after the surgery and further biopsy it was a little worse then first thought so I was to be booked in for a second surgery asap, this rocked us again ๐Ÿ˜ข

After that 2nd surgery the wait to then see the Oncologist to see what treatment was required. It was recommended I have radiation therapy( this is every day of the week for a few weeks) of corse if it was going to help my situation I would do this no questions asked but logistically, while home-schooling my boys and Brett trying to catch up with work this would definitely be difficult. It was at this time I was asked if I would like to be part of a clinical trial where all my biopsy & DNA would be sent to America and here they would test if treatment would lower the risk of my cancer returning. Results were that treatment would not lessen my chances so I was lucky enough to not have treatment following my surgeries... something I am so greatful for.
I am one of the lucky ones and I think this every single day, I lost a friend to Breast cancer this year who was younger then me and she fought so hard yet she was always there for me through my diagnosis and I will never forget her kindness to me when she herself was going through so much.

This year our family once again had another shock of diagnosis. My Dad Bob was diagnosed a few months ago and underwent surgery. He has handled all of this so well and we are so very proud of him โค๏ธ Breast cancer is rare in men ( about 1% of Breast cancer diagnosis are men). I'm so glad Dad went straight to his doctor as soon as he noticed something.

Thanks to Dad for allowing me to share his diagnosis to raise awareness, we both feel this is something men need to hear more about. Men may think not much of a lump or bump here or there but it really is so important to get checked.

EARLY DETECTION IS KEY TO SAVE YOUR LIFE. This is what many of my doctors told me... my mammogram saved my life. I could not feel my tumour at all and there were no signs.

Dad and I are both in wonderful hands and both under brilliant surgeons who will be keeping close eyes on us. The drive behind our Jackpot we are running is to not only raise $ but also awareness. If one person gets checked after reading this post our job is done โœ”๏ธ

We can't wait for our November Jackpot and already have had some wonderful people reaching out to sponsor. If you would like to be a part of this please send a message we would love to award as many prizes as possible ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ’œ

Thanks for reading
Yarnie xx
